For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever has faith [ pistis ] in Him should not perish but have everlasting [ αἰώνιος , aiónios , aeonic ] life.

The Gospel of John is unique among the Gospel books. It isn't based on the Book of Mark, which serves as the foundation for the other synoptic gospels (Matthew and Luke). John's Gospel differs in its terminology, details, and notably in its symbolism, as seen from the very beginning in John 1:1, the Logos. Many verses that Christians use to support the divinity of Jesus are found in the Book of John.
Let's explore it further; please open to the Book of John and follow along.

John 3:16 serves as a fundamental mantra for the average Christian, deeply ingrained in their subconscious. However, many may not fully grasp the verse's true meaning.

Understanding the context surrounding John 3:16 is crucial to decipher its significance.
In John chapter 3:1-6, a Pharisee leader approached Jesus seeking guidance on entering the kingdom of heaven. Jesus explained the necessity of being born anew through two means: one through water and the other through the Spirit.
The man questioned how he could be reborn as he couldn't re-enter the womb. In John 3:6, Jesus responded that flesh gives birth to flesh, while the spirit gives birth to spirit.
This subtle insight highlights that anyone born from the WOMB is born of Flesh. The fabricated virgin birth of Jesus is redundant since it still involves birth from the womb, thus of the FLESH.

In John 3:16, the son that God begets is the SPIRIT. This is supported by two points:
(1)God is a spirit (John 4:24).
(2)Spirit begets spirit (John 3:6).
Accordingly, the only offspring of God is the SPIRIT, not Jesus, the son of Mary.
Flesh can continue to give birth only to what it has always produced
.

So, How did Jesus, son of Mary end up as the Son of God?
The story of John the Baptist and Jesus' baptism is remarkably intriguing and stands as one of the most significant narratives in the Gospels. Surprisingly, even the virgin birth of Jesus, absent in the first Gospel written—Mark—is considered less crucial. However, the tale of John the Baptist appears in all the Gospels.

John clarifies that the primary purpose of his baptism was to reveal the SPIRIT, as stated in John 1:31, emphasizing the unveiling of the Spirit to both himself and Israel.

Following Jesus' baptism, the SPIRIT of God DESCENDED from HEAVEN and REMAINED upon him. This pivotal moment, detailed in Mark 1:10-11, marks the point at which Jesus became the Son of God. Before this event, Jesus neither possessed the SPIRIT nor held the title of the Son of God.

John's baptism brought about two immediate outcomes: as soon as jesus emerged from the water, having been immersed in it, this significant transformation took place:
1) It revealed the bearer of the Spirit to John the Baptist and the nation of Israel (John 1:31).
2)It bestowed the Spirit upon Jesus, thereby making him the Son of God (John 1:32).

In Mark 1:12, immediately following the baptism, Jesus was led by the SPIRIT into the wilderness to undergo Testing, Instruction, and Ministering for forty days and nights.
The significance of this duration—forty days—is not coincidental but carries specific symbolic meaning in Jewish tradition, representing a period of Testing and Judgment:
A) It echoes Israel’s forty years in the Sinai desert after the exodus, a time explicitly referred to in Scripture as a test of the people's faithfulness (Deut 8:2-3).
B) It recalls the forty days and nights of rain sent by Yahweh as a form of judgment (Gen 7:4, 12, 17; 8:6).
C) Moses spent "forty days and forty nights" on Mount Sinai receiving the legal statutes of the Torah (Exodus 34:28).

Returning to the Book of John, after John the Baptist witnessed the SPIRIT descending upon jesus, he testified to this event in the presence of two of his disciples. As a result of John's testimony, these two disciples, Andrew and Judas, began following Jesus (John 1:35-37).
These two, Andrew and Judas, with Jesus were the ones who officially initiated the Gospel.
Note: Judas was formerly a disciple of John the Baptist, he is also recognized as the one whom Jesus loved. https://www.nairaland.com/7888378/other-disciple-whom-jesus-loved

It was only after the SPIRIT descended upon Jesus that his Gospel, his revelation, commenced. This marked the moment when he became the Son of God and began performing signs and miracles.
Jesus kick-started his gospel by delivering a message rooted in Isaiah 61, emphasizing the SPIRIT being upon him after his anointing.

Jesus, at the age of thirty (as mentioned in Luke 3:23), had been regularly attending the synagogue. However, before his baptism, he had not preached in the synagogue, nor been recognized as a Rabbi, or performed any signs or wonders because he lacked the SPIRIT.
Additionally, despite people selling various items in the synagogue, Jesus had been aware but did not take offense at it until after the SPIRIT DESCENDED upon him. It was only after this event, as stated in John 2:16, that he declared he wouldn't allow it, emphasizing the sanctity of the synagogue as his father's house.

Note: The Ebionites, one of the original and earliest followers of Jesus movement, became extinct by the 3rd century. Originating in and around Palestine during the first century AD, they rejected Orthodox doctrines such as Jesus' divinity, virgin birth, and substitutionary atonement. With the influence of Roman authority, these Jewish sects were later labeled as heretical.

To briefly summarize the whole article, simply read:
John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son....."

John 4:24: "God is spirit......"

John 3:6: "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit."

John 1:32: "...... 'I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him'.

A 21st Century rewrite of the same verse would strip out the fabu and go something like:

For some humans so loved the world, that they wrote about an only begotten Son's understanding of the Word that had been previously written, that whosoever learneth from it and him should not perish too quickly, but shall live longer than those who don't.

The pity is failing to understand the role of Mary in teaching Jesus to read, which is similar to failing to see how Eve freed Adam from slavery.

Can't argue with John 15:17, since it's what I sign.

Love one another! They that sayeth they are in the light and hateth another remaineth in darkness. Human Rights

Can't say it's "easy indeed" though, since it's not what is learnt by most despite all its teaching in just about every religion worth its salt.

Yeah, I think people find it easier to believe someone died for their sins than to actually love their neighbor.

John 3:4 can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jesus, son of Mary, is dead and gone, he has done the works that his father gave him.

Many would rather others be responsible for them and their actions than they be responsible for themselves and their actions. Guess that's why some are here being responsible by teaching them to be responsible for themselves.

And when they truly learn what Jesus is written to have taught, they'd not be created from mud to be ignorant naked slaves, but in God's image to rule and subdue and multiply and replenish.

Years ago we used to illustrate it with Plato's allegory of the Cave. It correctly describes why Jesus got crucified, which is one reason I prefer smarter Buddha for not 'dying for anyone', though I must recognise that a society struggling to understand the Bible can not possibly be ready for the copious amount of Dhamma that exists.

It already has. Church of England schools have been teaching Buddhism (and Hinduism and Islam amongst others) for decades now and don't indoctrinate with belief anymore. We are just waiting for the teachings to be exported to the masses elsewhere.

Premise #1: The only life people get from their human parents— human father and human mother — is physical — flesh and blood alone.
Premise #2: The new life that the Spirit gives a person is spiritual.
5 Jesus answered, “Believe me when I say that everyone must be born from water and the Spirit. Anyone who is not born from water and the Spirit cannot enter God’s kingdom.
6 The only life people get from their human parents is physical. But the new life that the Spirit gives a person is spiritual.
7 Don’t be surprised that I told you, ‘You must be born again.’
8 The wind blows wherever it wants to. You hear it, but you don’t know where it is coming from or where it is going. It is the same with everyone who is born from the Spirit.” - John 3 vs 5 - 8
Premise #3(a): God is Spirit
21 Jesus said, “Believe me, woman! The time is coming when you will not have to be in Jerusalem or on this mountain to worship the Father.
22 You Samaritans worship something you don’t understand. We Jews understand what we worship since salvation comes from the Jews.
23 But the time is coming when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. That time is now here. And these are the kind of people the Father wants to be his worshipers.
24 God is spirit. So the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” - John 4 vs 21 - 24
Premise #3(b): God who is Spirit, in Genesis 2, created flesh and blood.
6 So water[a] came up from the earth and spread over the ground.
7 Then the Lord God took dust from the ground and made a man. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nose, and the man became a living thing. - Genesis 2 vs 6 - 7
Jesus Christ is written to have been born of both human and Spirit parents so clearly, a more logical conclusion that should follow is that Jesus Christ, having one human parent and one Spirit parent must have come as both flesh, blood, and spirit. undecided

Jesus Christ was referred to as both Son of man and Son of man to indicate that not only was he born of a human but also of God's Spirit. undecided

Spirit means breath, air or the wind.
John 3:8
The wind blows wherever it wants to. You hear it, but you don’t know where it is coming from or where it is going. It is the same with everyone who is born from the Spirit.”

When god created man, he breathe into him, the breathe is the spirit.
He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nose, and the man became a living thing. - Genesis 2 vs 7.
Spirit is also called neshema or Rauch or Nepesh in Hebrew

Jesus, son of Mary is just a mere man, his father his Joseph.
John 6:42
Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?

The holy spirit descended on him after he was born again with water, which john the baptist testified.
John 1:32
Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.

The flesh and spirit came from land, and land came from water(Mayim).
Genesis 1:9
And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear."

That's why you need to be born anew in water and spirit.

12 I have told you about things here on earth, but you do not believe me. So I’m sure you will not believe me if I tell you about heavenly things!
13 The only one who has ever gone up to heaven is the one who came down from heaven—the Son of Man. - John 3 vs 10 - 13
Jesus Christ didn't say He came down from Heaven as a Son of man— spotting flesh and blood. Rather He said the only one who has ever gone up to heaven — who also wears the title Son of Man— is the same one who came down from Heaven. What Jesus Christ said in John 3 vs 13 is in response to the question hinted at by God in Deuteronomy 30 and Proverbs 30:4.
11 “This command that I give you today is not too hard for you. It is not a secret hidden in some far away land.
12 This command is not in heaven so that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us and bring it to us, so that we can hear and do it?’
13 This command is not on the other side of the sea so that you should say, ‘Who will go across the sea for us and bring it to us, so that we can hear it and do it?’
14 No, the word is very near to you. It is in your mouth and your heart. So you can obey it.- Deuteronomy 30 vs 11 - 12

14 The Word became a man and lived among us. We saw his divine greatness—the greatness that belongs to the only Son of the Father. The Word was full of grace and truth.
15 John told people about him. He said loudly, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘The one who is coming after me is greater than I am, because he was living before I was even born.’”
16 Yes, the Word was full of grace and truth, and from him we all received one blessing after another.
17 That is, the law was given to us through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has ever seen God. The only Son is the one who has shown us what God is like. He is himself God and is very close to the Father. - John 1 vs 14 - 18

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.
7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father too. But now you know the Father. You have seen him.” - John 14 vs 6
Jesus Christ confirmed what John said when He revealed that He was the embodiment of God's Truth(Spirit of Truth) and Life(Spirit of Eternal Life) in addition to the spirit of God's Law aka the Way. undecided

So, exactly what is the identity of the Spirit that came upon Jesus Christ and rested on Him after He was baptized? Aren't we getting ahead of ourselves by concluding that Jesus Christ had no spirit in Him until a spirit arrived and rested instead on him after he was baptized? undecided

The word is the spirit that came down from heaven, that's the reason why john was baptising with water so it can be revealed.

John 1:32-33
Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’

NNTR:

"Jesus said to them,
“If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God;
nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.
"
- John 8:42

Absolutely spot on, and what I've all along have harped on about, hence the reason why I liked the post.

Yes, "exerchomai" is the Greek original word translated as "proceeded forth". By definition, it means, to go or come out of, with mention of the place out of which one goes, or of the point from which one departs. John 8:42 above, makes no mistake, where from Jesus proceeded forth and came from.

Though Jesus was God, He did not think of equality with God, as something to cling to, instead, He gave up his divine privileges. He took the humble position of a servant and was born as a human being, and so God appeared on earth, in human form, as in, the person of Jesus Christ, His Son

God can send Himself, and did send Himself to earth, in the form of Jesus Christ. God simultaneously can be in more than one place at a time (i.e. God can be in Heaven and on earth, at the same time) Note that, Jesus didnt correct people that addressed Him as God, for example, where and when said: "My Lord, My God" to Him.

Its often said, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Something to be done right is exactly what it's all about and so what God did. This is a matter of the classsic diy aka Do-It-Yourself.

God looked for someone who could build walls or looked for someone to stand in the breach in His presence on behalf of the world so that it won't be destroyed, but He found no one and so God is lumbered with, doing a classic Do-It-Yourself by sending Himself to carry out the redemptive work.

This will explain what the bible said and/or is saying about "begotten" The word translated as "begotten", is the greek word "monogene" "Monogene", means, one and only or better still, one of a kind

Now the word "monogene", is a combination of the root words: "mono" (one or only) and "genos" (of a class or kind) hence "begotten", in the context, or "monogene" in the context means "the only of its kind"

Now, "monogene" occurred also, when similarly used over Isaac, and that is where and when Isaac was referred to, as only son, even when Abraham already had an older son, Ishmael

Isaac was unique, was one and only or one of a kind son. Unique in the sense that, an impotent man and menopaused woman had a child, the promised son, Isaac (i.e. child in a class of its own, this miracle never again has been repeated)

To just clear each other, "begotten" in the Jesus' context isn’t about procreation or some fantasied sexual intercourse

Personal text: Jesus is not a theologian. He is God who told stories.

NNTR:
Jesus wasn't discussing symbolism, but He actually was stating a brutal fact about human being births, and thereafter went to mention the two criteria for a human being needed to enter the kingdom of Heaven.

'Born of water' figuratively speaking, is talking of water breaking, and refers to the breaking of the amniotic sac, which surrounds the baby and where the sac, contains amniotic fluid.

When this fluid in pregnant women's wombs, that surrounds a baby, passes and comes out of their bodies, it is indicating that the baby is ready to be born.

So that's exactly what born of water means. Birth. It doesnt mean, as you claim, baptized in water, because of the fact that, the baby in the first place, isnt or wasn't dipped into water

Nicodemus and Jesus are talking of births here. Nicodemus was talking of actual physical birth, while Jesus went beyond and above, to talk of not just only definite physical birth alone but also of actual spiritual birth as well too

Personal text: Jesus is not a theologian. He is God who told stories.

Kobojunkie:

So, exactly what is the identity of the Spirit that came upon Jesus Christ and rested on Him after He was baptized? Aren't we getting ahead of ourselves by concluding that Jesus Christ had no spirit in Him until a spirit arrived and rested instead on him after he was baptized? undecided
The spirit is the word of God, that was with God and all that.
Jesus was born a normal man and he got the holy spirit, same way David did

1 Samuel 16:13.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. Then Samuel got up and went to Ramah.
