Denmark’s parliament has passed a bill that makes it illegal to burn copies of the Quran in public places after protests in Muslim nations over the desecration of Islam’s holy book raised security concerns.

The bill, which prohibits “inappropriate treatment of writings with significant religious importance for a recognised religious community”, was passed with 94 votes in favour and 77 opposed in the 179-seat Folketing on Thursday

In practical terms, it will be forbidden to burn, tear or otherwise defile holy texts publicly or in videos intended to be disseminated widely.

Those who break the law risk a fine or up to two years in prison. Before it takes effect, Queen Margrethe needs to formally sign it. That is expected to happen this month.

We don't need any bill, we take laws into our hands.... Our islamic religion is bigger than the country's constitutional laws.

This is something I don't like when you're too liberal.

In the Middle East and the Islamic world, people of other faiths are not allowed to practice their faith as freely as Muslims do in Europe and America.

In your own region, other people have to abide by your rules. But you go to the liberal west. The west of freedom and peace, you want everyone to abide by your own rules. Isn't that hypocrisy?

There has never been riots when the bible is burnt. Also when Jesus was depicted in a jar of urine.
There have been vicious murders and riots when the Islam prophet is caricatured or Quran burnt. Include a fatwah by the highest Shia leader .
