The question was raised on Quora.com and someone has this to say.
I felt we should judge, how true?

Hmm Yes, I have been to many of those West African countries. The problem with countries like Ghana, Togo, Ivory coast etc is that they focused their development only on the capital cities.

Nigeria can still boast of development in comparison to her neighboring countries and west African countries.

If you go to Ivory coast the only top-notch city there is Abidjan, Partially Yamoussoukro.

Ghana focused its development only in Accra and partially cape coast and Eastern region.

Togo, its only Lome with a lovely beach. Every part of the country is still underdeveloped.

Benin republic development is majorly in Cotonou.

Liberia is only Monrovia

But Nigeria can still be proud of places like Abeokuta, Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Kano, Kaduna,Abuja,Uyo,Calabar,Oshogbo etc

Abuja

Kano state

Countries like Niger, Burkina faso, Mali are still far from development.

Some people made suggestions that Senegal might be more developed than Nigeria. This is a point with no proof because I have never been there and I doubt it.

We can only measure a country development with the following methods:

Main development points:
Employment
Poverty
Health
Education
Social Cohesion
Safety and Security
Good Governance

Aspects of Development that cannot be measured:
Freedom
Security
Sustainability
conservation.

Considering Nigeria population, I think it is rude to put Senegal on a race with Nigeria. Senegal population is barely 16 million approximately,Lagos state population alone is over 20 million and Nigeria as a country is approximately 180 million with huge land mass, different culture, beliefs and languages!

Senegal is only matured when it comes to politics and the same thing with Nigeria. The opinion that senegalese have better living standard than Nigerians is something I don’t want to agree.

You can comment for counter arguments!

This is the map of West Africa, I have visited many except few.Based on experience, you cannot compare Nigeria with any of the above listed countries.

Typical kafir lies and propaganda 🤣🤣🤣🤣

West Africa is the most undeveloped region in Africa. So being the most developed in the most under developed region is a slap.

Nigeria is not suppose to be a country in the first place hence the diverse development in different regions.

Nigeria is made up of 6 different countries called regions.

Based on this fact, if you bring out one region in Nigeria and compare it with any of those West African countries you mentioned above, you will see that there is no much difference.

If you split the countries into units like that, their rating would still be worse.

Or what do you think?

The metrics have already been done, by the United Nations and that's the Human Development Index (HDI). You go by that objective metric, Cape Verde is the most developed in West Africa, followed by Ghana, then Ivory Coast etc. But someone like me I don't regard small less than 1 million people Cape Verde as a "big boy", so that leaves Ghana as the most developed in the subregion

We seem to be better at counting our 'losses' here intead of counting our blessings.

There's insecurity everywhere, from Middle East to 'Middle West', from Pacific to Atlantic.
And it's not stopping soon.

The number of the unemployed might be high in Nigeria but the number of the employed is also very high, infact as high as the entire population of some of these West African countries.

In terms of governance, we're definitely making progress. We're making our mistakes and learning our hard lessons grin
That's progress!

Erm... about cohesion, nothing is more cohesive than bickering and squabbling.
Quarrelling is a form of romance cheesy

Nigeria as the biggest economy should be the most developed in Africa if not for corruption system of govt. The country needs to break into 6, 7 or 8 countries like Yugoslavia for healthy economies.
