Why Does The Al-quran Say That Jesus Died, Resurrected And Ascended To Heaven? by joeBishops: 10:47am On Dec 15, 2023
One of the major theological differences between Christianity and Islam is the death of Jesus.
-The death of Jesus and His resurrection are crucial to the Christian faith.
-That Jesus died is a single fact that is well established in history. Both christian and non-Christian historians from the first century affirmed this.
-However, Islamic scholars denied this, even though Islam came 600 years after the eye-witnesses accounts and 1st century historians.
-The critical evaluation of the two common verses in the Quran upon which Islamic position is based, we find that most Islamic scholars are wrong.
1. Surah Al-Nisa Qur'an Chapter 4:157
The TRANSLITERATION is as follows; " And their saying, “Indeed, We killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Messenger of God.” But they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to appear to them. And indeed, those who differ ۟ There is no doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except following suspicion. And they did not kill him with certainty"

If we look at the various English translations online and even the renditions in English, we will see people are being misled into believing that Jesus was not killed and someone was killed in His place.
An English Translation by Sahih International
" And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah ." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain."

Notice how it says another was made to appear like him. That is the substitution theory, however, the Arabic version does not say that. The Arabic only said the Jews and the Romans did not succeed in exterminating Him and there is no mention of a replacement.

Why would Allah commit an injustice to an unnamed man to be killed instead of Jesus?

Many Islamic scholars are now coming out to disprove the substitution theory and reeducate Islamic community e.g. Sheikh Imran Hossein

and Shabbir Ally:

The second popular verse is Ayah Al-Imran 3:55
Let's see what the English translation says from Sahih International
"[Mention] when Allāh said, "O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify [i.e., free] you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you [in submission to Allāh alone] superior to those who disbelieve until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that in which you used to differ."
— Saheeh International

Notice the phrase "take you" which makes it seems that Jesus was raised bodily to heaven without tasting death.

And the transliteration...
" When God said, “Jesus, I will cause you to die, and I will raise you to Me, and I will purify you from those who disbelieved, and I will place those who followed you above those who disbelieved.” And until the Day of Resurrection. Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning what you differed about."

Notice that the phrase "take you" has been used to replace "cause you to die" in the original Arabic.

One question is why do Islamic scholars and teachers change the words of Allah to suit their agenda and mislead people?

Billions of people that do not understand Arabic have been brainwashed since Quran was originally revealed in Arabic.

In conclusion, I have attempted to close some theological gaps between Christianity and Islam by showing how Qur'an revealed that Jesus died, resurrected and ascended into heaven. The key question that muslims should be asking is "why did Jesus die?" If Christians and Muslims come to understanding, the amount of conflicts between them will be minimised.
Thank you.
