When most Igbo kids born in Igbo land don’t even know how to speak Igbo, I see these parents speaking English to their kids I begin to wonder the level of inferiority complex in Igbo land, na only Igbos see oyibo, Yorubas saw the white men over a 100 years before the easterners, still they don’t joke with their language, especially this modern day foolish Igbo women na them Dey spread this stupidity

Very good one Sir.

But I have always disliked physics in school and the only subject I had a Pass in my WAEC result.
I hope mathematics and chemistry s translated too because those are best subjects. grin

Igbo Amaka.
Ndi iro ajoka

You can't hate physics and like mathematics because both are almost the same

A welcome development. If it's not used now, it will definitely be used later. Smart man! Keep up the good work. While the naysayers say what they want today, while tomorrow pays off.

This is a misconception I have often seen.

Tell me, can you read in your local language better than you can read in the English language?

If the English language is easier for you to read, what makes you think you would have learned better if your textbooks were in Igbo?

Most of us can't even write properly in our local languages. So how are you going to learn a complex subject that is written in this language that you struggle to read and write in? How many of us can casually read a simple Igbo news article without struggling? Or you forget that we do most of our learning by reading?
Now imagine having to not just read but study a technical textbook written in this language.

If at all, for this to work, our indigenous languages would first have to take the place of English in the country. You can't be a good student if you don't have a firm grasp of the language of instruction both in the spoken and in the written form.
So, for instance, Igbo language would have to be mandated and prioritised above all subjects starting from primary schools like we do with English language. If you don't pass the subject, you don't get promoted. This way, by the time students are at secondary level, they can read and write properly in the language. Then, perhaps, we can start considering using the language to learn science subjects like physics.

I see alot of sense here. I also address the issues without any insult. Thank you for your maturity

Don't kill your self, Igbo can borrow words from other languages. Besides English is the master of borrowing words- from Latin, German, French etc

An Igbo linguist has begun translating a physics textbook into the Igbo language.

The man, Maazi Ogbonnaya Okoro, stated on social media that the work would be completed in 2024.

He stated that once he finished translating physics into Igbo, he would start working on chemistry and biology.

He wrote:

“By 2024, I should be done translating Physics textbook into the Igbo Language. Once I am done with Physics, I will go over to Chemistry, Biology and other STEM subjects.”

In a separate post made in 2021, the scholar said he had done other major works in the Igbo language.

His words:

“Now I have over 25 published books in Igbo and total of 58 published and unpublished manuscripts in Igbo Language. Translated the BBC guidelines in Igbo before the launching of BBC Igbo Service; translated Igbo for the UNESCO.”

It’s largely for people in rural areas, informal purposes or those that can’t afford to go to formal institutions
Like street mechanics, artisans etc

You are very ignorant and stupid.

Colonised mumu.

Speaking and learning in YOUR OWN God-given language is “backwards”.

I mean, some of you are so thick and stupid, it’s incredible.

Whoever messed up your heads to hate your own identity in this manner has a lot to answer for.

The founding fathers of the current 6-3-3-4 education system, Alhaji Babatunde "Babs" Aliyu Fafunwa once proposed that all subjects should be taught in our indigenous language. His first adversaries were his colleagues in Academia who were against the idea. He quickly reminded them that most of them were educated in the indigenous languages of other non English speaking countries. It took IBB to stop that conflagration.

It's not rocket science developing indigenous names for these things.
