Dangote built the world's biggest refinery at a time the world is moving away from fossil fuels. His refinery almost became a white elephant project because such huge refinery can be so complex and thus difficult to complete. If not for Nigerian government intervention through the CBN, he would have become broke and the refinery complex uncompleted.

The question many pundits kept asking was, why build the world's largest single train refinery for many years and almost fail when you can easily build a much smaller one and complete it on time?

The reason which many do not know, is because he wants complete monopoly! Dangote's aim is to control our petroleum sector completely, the way he did with cement until BUA intervened. Talking about cement, Dangote is still bitter with BUA for competing with him in cement and goes all out attacking them most of the time. His anger is that BUA is frustrating his intentions to keep cement prices very high.

Can anyone explain the logic why Dangote cement was most expensive in Nigeria than other African countries?

The price war between BUA and Dangote is because while BUA is trying to force down prices, Dangote wants it to keep increasing. If not for BUA, Dangote cement would be costing 9,000 naira per bag today!

Back to his refinery, he chose to build a massive one so he could dictate prices through monopoly. I pity Nigerians who are hoping that fuel will become cheap once Dangote refinery becomes functional. On the contrary, the opposite will happen. That's exactly what happened when he completed his Obajana cement complex.

Dangote is a modern day Shylock. He believes in controlling prices through monopoly. He is the only investor I know that wants to mass produce yet wants to sell at premium prices. Only extremely greedy Shylocks do that!

No, Dangote is the only refinery around because you and your political enemies, and most Nigerians, want fuel to cost N40 per liter.

Because of that, no one would lend money to anyone wanting to invest in a major refinery project. Except you are dangote, who can provide a suitable collateral, no one else would lend money to a refinery that would sell fuel below what it cost to make it, losing money and increasing the chances lenders won't see their money.(Most of the money going into the refinery is from banks, local and international. Apart from a CBN loan , which has been paid off, government sent no money.).

Subsides paid, even if we removed corruption, stealing and so forth, would always rise beyond government capacity to pay for them, because at the end, you cannot do anything about production costs.

There is no monopoly in the GSM sector because government did not step in and insist that GSM companes sell phone calls at 50 kobo for ten minutes, and 1gb for ten naira to help the poor breathe.

Am not a GEJ supporter (indeed I can't say I have met any Nigerian leader I can support, Tinubu inclusive), but if GEJ had removed subsides completely in 2012, and damm the consequences, there would have been three or more private refineries like Dangote around. Because yes, fuel would have been expensive, but domestic refining would have been profitable enough for even Union Bank to lend money for the thing.

Our addiciton to cheap fuel is why we are in danger of a Dangote monopoly. And if Tinubu continues with subsidy, that dangote refinery will collapse. Refineries need to be profitable to run well.

There are still many industries in Nigeria waiting to be dominated. Pick one and dominate it rather than cry all night and all day over Dangote.

Hate and myopia is your biggest problem. Nigeria is a huge country with many needs to be met. Rather than die of envy and hate pick one industry to dominate.
What is my concern about you leaving Nigeria or not?
