To start with, in Lagos, there are too many people and too many vehicles. There are some wisdom you must have especially when you're living in Lagos.
These wisdom are applicable elsewhere but finds more resonance and applicability when you are journeying or staying in Lagos state

1) When you are stranded in a bus, the best person to ask for money is the person sitting beside you. The next best person is the Driver.

Don't ever make the mistake of saying when you get down, you'd find someone to ask money from, you might be surprised at the ordeal.

The problem with drivers is that they might help but they are more prone to loud the affair to the ears of others. You have no choice, you're stranded.

To guard against this, make sure you leave home with enough cash, a charged cellphone too.


2. Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of land mass however, you'd be surprised that sometimes the roads look alike and two places might bear the same popular name.

I remembered one time I was going to Berger.

I never knew there were two "Bergers" in Lagos state.

Best thing here is to ask for direction, you have to be tact about who you ask directions from, don't go ask from any passed by walking in a funny way.

There is a day I was in Ikeja, I wanted to go to a place, let's call the place X.

When I got to the under bridge, I saw a guy walking along the road, his looks was not too shabby and I asked him for direction; he gave me the opposite direction.

He even advised I take another bus and with the seriousness and sincerity on his face, I was swayed. I never knew there were many weyreys in Lagos

God will punish that guy

When asking for direction, your best bet is the Lastman, Police, VIO... You can also use Google map but sometimes, the map may not be mapping.

Just walk to the garage, ask a driver to give you direction.

Fun fact, you can also ask an Agbero, they are so many in Lagos but you don't just ask any Agbero.

You don't want anyone to think you're JJC and get mugged, therefore, ask the agbero thats taking the money. #Senior_Agbero

Observe! who are other agberos taking the money to? Walk to that person and ask for direction, be respectful about it and you will never go wrong. This here has saved me quite a lot.



3) Before you enter an empty bus, think twice. Hehehhehhe. One day at Constain, I was going to Ikorodu. I did not know which route to follow and was still naive back then.

I saw a bus, I went to meet the guy there and asked him how I can get to Ikorodu. The guy asked me to enter the bus. He said he is going to Ikorodu. There was another guy in the front of the bus too,, you would know they've drank enough bitters. Something just seemed off.

I was about entering when a stranger dragged me from behind, "Where are you going he said?"

He looked those guys menacingly and told me to go enter a BRT. The BRT got filled and when it was moving, I checked through the window and the yellow bus was still where it was.

4) if the bus fare is too ridiculous, don't enter. You might think you are wise and saving money but then, eko lowaa. Anyone with experience on this can share


5) When boarding a bus, be conscious of your environment. You want to enter a bus and you are jamming a song using your headset... Till they will take you to unknown destination, you won't know


6) Don't be shy

Hehehehhe, dont be shy to tell the driver you don't know the actual bus-stop you are heading to, don't be shy to remind him about it, it's better to be embarrassed in the bus than walk 20km back to your bus stop. It won't be funny then


7. Hold your change

If you have lower denomination with you, hold it. These conductors do not mind taking your 1k when they told you earlier, "Toba ni change, ma wole oooo ( if you don't have change, don't enter oo). They would zoom off with your money because of #100


8. Don't get into a fight with other passengers; most times, it's not worth it.

9. Be respectful to anyone and everyone. Some highly placed people that you would need invitation to meet might be in same bus with you. Even the HR to interview you for a job might be in that same bus.
