The only thing worse than being alone is being alone with the wrong person or people.

My question today is how do you find your people? This is directed to those who have found their people.

I have searched for more than 25 years and I am still yet to find my tribe. I have always known that I was different, weird even but I don't think I am too different to be one of a kind. So why am I still searching after so many years.

I know that there are a lot of people my age that feels this way as such I have decided to ask the question on all our minds.

Based on the little research I did on this topic, I now know two important things that one needs to find before one can find one's people.

1. You need to find yourself: It sounds cliche but you can't find someone if you yourself is lost. So first you must find yourself. It is not a days job and even our elders are still in the process of self discovery. Nonetheless, there are certain things you should know by now about yourself (I won't be listing them unless you want me to).

2. You need to, as a matter of urgency, find your purpose: I use to think that we are all in this world to do one thing and one thing only which is our purpose. With time and more reading, I have come to realize that our purpose is not one thing but a series of things that we need to do at every point in time. If we fail to do these things at the appropriate time, we get depressed and all manner of negative emotions. We need to know these things and do them. The good thing about our purpose (or purposes as some would call it) is that it is not against our nature but rather in line with it but we don't know it yet. Just as with finding oneself, finding your purpose is not something you can finish doing.

In summary, to find your people, you must first find your purpose and to find your purpose, you must first find yourself. This is the key to everything good. Also since finding yourself and purpose is a continuous process, it translates that your people would also change over time.

Nice suggestions. Recently I have started sharing more of my interests with the world. Though I am yet to find my people, I believe it is only a matter of time.

I will like to point out though that not everyone that share interests/hobbies with you are your people. In fact I found out that most people only have one thing in common with you, in every other aspect they are completely different from you.

Nevertheless, you are more likely to find your people among those that you have shared interests.

So thank you for the excellent advice, really appreciate it.

Still on the verge of finding my people. It is not a days job. Sometimes you say eureka too soon only to realize that the search has only began.

Yet I won't be weary or discouraged. I will search high and low, old and young, rich and poor, men and women. Until I find what I am looking for. I will not relent nor give up because I know it would be worth it.

Sometimes you don't find your people, they find you. If you are lucky that is.
