Question!

You have a neighbor who sells fresh tomatoes in the market. But this neighbor is such a sweet neighbor to you that you can leave your house open when she is around. You even drop your kids with her every time you are going out. Your kids and hers are friends.

Now, you want to make a Christmas stew which you will dish to your friends, neighbors and visitors. You planned to buy fresh tomatoes worth N3,000. And you had told her you would be buying "good" tomatoes for your stew. She assured you that she has very good tomatoes.

On getting to the market, there were 3 tomato sellers. Your neighbor was at the middle. But her tomatoes is simply bad. The other two sellers are selling tomato Jos, strong, big and red like those apples they sell N650. And they are damn attractive. And this is just what you want. Due to how big they are, the sellers have them 5 pieces for N500.

But your neighbor's tomatoes are these ones grown by local women in gardens, which usually have this yellow to faded green colors. They are grouped into 7 pieces for N500. They are the size of N50 onions and they are simply no match for these Jos tomatoes. You know for sure that what you need is these unblemish tomatoes from Jos so as to make a worthy and tasty stew.

And as you were coming, your neighbor excited shaded the other sellers to clear road, "that's my neighbor coming".

What will you do on seeing this?
Who will you buy from?

This is one of the reasons I don't keep acquaintances. I can't afford to have any emotional obligations towards anybody.

Buy from your neighbor. She will understand the sacrifice you made for her.

In real life scenario you can't have only 3 tomato retailers in one spot in the entire market. But going by your analysis I will buy from all three of them.

Buy a bit from my neighbour, then send a neutral person to help buy from others. Case closed.

Honestly, in that exact scenario, I’d probably buy it from my neighbour because I’m loyal to the core.

Well I'll buy 2k tomatoes from my neighbour, then I'll politely tell her I also need 1k worth of fresh big tomatoes from other sellers to balance up what i want to make, if she really is a good neighbour, she wouldn't take offence since I bought the largest share from her.

I hope “shouting” at strangers on the streets of nairaland defeats whatever demons that are pursuing you in 2024. (No offence) 🤧
