Unless you understand Islam and Catholicism, you can NEVER understand Nigeria. Other than the Itsekiri and Bini, Christianity in Nigeria is less than 200 years old. EVERY other Christian community in the region are less than 200 years old.

Meanwhile, Islam has an unbroken thousand-year history in the geographical location now known as Nigeria. And Catholicism was accepted and syncretised into their own natural religions by the Itsekiri and Bini in the 15th Century. The only two religions that predate colonialism in Nigeria are, therefore, Islam and Catholicism (Itsekiri and Bini).

If you like, be annoyed. But the truth is that for the most part (there are exceptions), Christianity in Nigeria is SHALLOW, while Islam and pre colonial Catholicism are DEEP. The exception applies mainly to Northern Christians.

The first embassy in the geographic location now called Nigeria was the Papal Nuncio to the Bini and Itsekiri. It was built in the Sixteenth Century at a road in Benin called Papal Via. It is now bastardised as Akpakpava road, opposite the Oba of Benin's palace.

ALL other Christianity is the result of colonialism, not persuasion, with the exception of a few fringe groups, like White Garment churches. I know it is not what you want to hear, but truth is bitter, but better. You met what your ancestors copied from the colonialists and just continued from where they stopped. Even the places where the various Christian denominations were sent was determined by the colonial office in London. If they say Anglican go here, your ancestors became Anglicans. if they had said, Methodist go there, your lineage became Methodists. It was a clerk decision that affected your clergy.

Therefore, if you want to understand Nigeria, you must understand Islam and Catholicism. You do not have to accept them. Just understand them.

Once you do, you can progress politically, economically, socially, and culturally. Failure to do that and you will just be active without being productive collectively in all these aforementioned areas. You may have partial success in some of these areas, but you are unlikely to have all-round success.

Oya, insult! That is one area in which you have a clear advantage. Not even an advantage. The word is monopoly!

Reno is considering joining Islam so he can wear Abokkki cap and eat from the national cake. grin

I know he blames God for not making him member of one 3 major ethnic groups, all of which he has insulted at one point since his days of eating political crumbs and pretending as 'Wendell Simlin' to write fake editorials. cheesy

Reno is a disturbed man. grin

So what point are they really trying to prove? What benefit(s) has any religion ever brought to mankind?

We are all human first before becoming religious and humanity should be the greatest devotion for whoever that cares.

Well written!!!

But he should focus more on Epistles against Igbos, obedients and Peter Obi.

That's what we know him for and he should not deviate

The only thing this Neutral shoe polish wanted to tell us is that he discovered the original name for Akpakpava road. He has not shown us how he came about his 1,000 years Islamic history, nor how Itshekiri found its way into this writeup.

Since twitter don suspend me permanently, i don plaster back for here. cool cool
