Mother Not Wanting To Pray With The Family by DestinyGlory: 10:20am On Jan 04
Hi Nairalanders,

I recently came for the Christmas holidays and I noticed that my mother does not like to pray or worship. For context, we do not leave together. My sister and I went for the cross over service in church but my mom declined saying she was tired. She also does not follow us to church services due to tiredness (note she is not currently working but helps with house chores). The biggest red flag was when I suggested we start praying together every night before we return back to our base as a family. One the first day, she was visibly upset and refused to participate in the praise and worship because we had not tidied up the house - and kept interjecting the worship saying the music was too loud; while she continued watching the TV. She participated in the prayers though. On the second day, she out rightly said she would not participate because the prayer was too late (around 1am) - and she cant be singing at 1am. This is surprising because she always says she prays for us at midnight on her own so why should waking up to pray together be a problem? During the day, she always listens to Christian messages on Youtube.

Has anyone come across something similar and how were you able to navigate?

She might be spiritual and not religious

In my house, my dad can fast and pray like any day anytime but my mum isn't all that religious, she prays when necessary

Only your mum has sense out of all of you.

She has seen life and she knows you guys are just wasting your time. Upon all the "Pray for Nigeria" I use to hear since over a decade ago, how many worked? Nigerians only pray but refuse to do the work.

You should work and pray.

Don't make your prayer a burden to other people or to yourself.

Let me guess, you think she may be a witch because she refuses to bow to your own religious traditions, as is typical with churchians. Let her be. Abeg, leave the woman make she worship wetin she wan worship, or not, o'jare undecided

Two hands joined together to work will yield more results than a thousand hands joined in prayers ..

You guys should let your mom be. The basic thing is that you ensure you love your mother and show it. Provide for her and stop nagging her. If she does not want to pray with you people, kindly leave her alone. Prayer should be done willingly and not by force.

And please she is NOT a witch. As long as she reads her Bible and prays by herself.

And if she absolutely refuses to read a Bible or pray at all, that one be say she be witch? undecided

Even if she come out say she be witch, so long as she no commit crime, why should she be discriminated against? lipsrsealed
