Why Do Village People Look Haggard And Malnourished? by fineboynl(m): 5:04pm On Jan 09
I was invited to a wedding in one igbo village like that. For many years now which I cannot even count i have not entered any village and see alot of village people at a gathering.

It’s believed that village people are predominantly farmers. And as such there are alot of food for them as food are relatively cheap over there, also most of the food we eat in the city comes from there.

As i have heard from many elderly people who like to go and retired in the village.

I was shock to see haggard and malnourished gathering of village elders and youth alike.

One thing that cross my mind is this people not predominantly farmers? Why are they looking like this? I was told village people are poor and there are no money. And i ask I thought this people have food like yams, garri and vegetables? Also with bush meats?

They laugh and told me there are no bush meat anymore in the bush, probably they wipe out all the bushmeat’s from trade, and the old papas are just peasant or subsistence farmers of which the soil doesn’t produce much. And the village youth don’t farm.

No wonder all the village youth from igbo land want to come to lagos and other cities. They see every opportunity to milk everyone that come to village from the cities for any traditional rights. Either for Burial or wedding. As long as igbos continue to go to their village for marriage or anything unlike other tribes. The exorbitant billings will never end. They see marriage as time to cash out.

They need education on better farming . Like the best seeds and fertilizer as most of them always plant the bad seeds.

Villages in Europe are not like this na

My dear, Satan has them in blindness. There is a river in the rural community I came for a project. If you stand 30-60 minutes, you can count up to 100 fishes within this time space. Do you know that common to buy two fish nets like 4,000 Naira to be getting daily access to fishes, these people refused to do it.

There are bush animals but now very limited unlike back in the days. If each household has two traps they will have stable access to meat weekly. But they refused to do it

The youths do not have eyes that see the maximum gains in farming and those that farm can't optimize to increase and expand enough to create jobs and opportunities for others just themselves.

When our forefathers farmed they do everything. The current breed of farmers only aim for the market abandoning self care. Those haggard people you think are suffering are just behaving that way to attract pity and then not draw attention to themselves most times for fear of witchcraft. But they overdo it and abandon themselves. When I see farmers farm for the market but abandon themselves I always laugh at their fullishness.

For me, I got seeds aside from my market farming. I have all sort of seeds like :

Lemon Grass cuttings

Ugwu seeds

Tomato seeds

Pepper seeds

Okro seeds

Soya beands for oil production

Averagely a farmer can buy varieties of vegetable seeds at say 4,000-5,000 Naira

NPK 6,000 Naira

Clear bush, make ridges. Just two acres can house the assortments I mentioned above and even maize. Lease is 20,000 Naira

100,000 Naira can get them to farm two acres

But they will not because village people have wickedness to others and self in their blood stream and wickedness blocks the eyes of reasoning and thinking

not true. They old faster that why you may think they live longer.

Go and see 45-55years looking like 70years.

Its just the same way children from poor home look stronger to children from rich homes.

The farms may no longer be safe because of bandits and herdsmen. The problem of Nigeria is bad leadership

Their biggest problem is that they don’t buy seeds. They replant the bad product from their harvest. Farming on the same land without nourishment.

This is a very low information thread. Or are you trolling us?

You mean you don't know why malnutrition is more in rural areas?

This is astounding. If you are still there, make some friends, then ask them this question.

When you talk about farming in the villages, Most of them still deploy crude method of farming basically manual. How do you expect them not to appeared haggard. I hope you know there are tractors equipped with Ac. Imagine such a farmer.

An average village farmer will use weeks for land preparation. But a tractor will execute same amount of work in few hours.

Re: Why Do Village People Look Haggard And Malnourished? by crackhaus: 9:10am On Jan 10
Not all villages are like this one you described, I can tell you this for a fact.

However, as someone mentioned above, farming on the same land for years without nourishing the land and using same old seeds from old harvests will inadvertently reduce yield overtime.

The same goes for hunting.

Rural dwellers, and possibly Nigerians generally, seem not to be enlightened enough to understand that there should be strict hunting seasons every calendar year. Hunting all round the year every year will not give enough time for bush animals to reproduce, grow, and multiply. But since bush meat is not really our main source of meat, this ought not to be a problem either way.

You made a good observation but your tribal addiction rendered it useless. Why mention Igbo, What have Igbos done to you people ?
Is it worse than what Fulani is currently doing to all tribes?

I am Igala and my construction work have taken me to over 100 villages that cuts across SS,SE,NC and SW.
It's the same situation everywhere, they're mostly farmers, some villages last saw light during OBJ first tenure.
One key feature of Igbo villages is that 85% of the villagers are sustained 100% by diaspora remittances. Govt dont even exist in those villages.

The one I don't like is seeing empty beautiful mansions surrounded by poor homes of frustrated jobless youths who have close family ties to the owner of the mansion.
