Once you attended USA embassy, they always have your records. Although, denial once does not mean you can not get visa after retrial. All they need is your truthfulness and your ability to convince them.

I applied for a visitors visa in 2005 and was refused based on family ties in the country I was supposed to visit.
My question is how long does the embassy keep record of visa denials?
I heard there is an immigration record retention period of six years.
How true is this? Valuable inputs from experts needed.

Why is it of importance to you? Unless you were banned for a period of time, I see no reason why the time frame is important. The regular denial will be in your record/history for ever. But bans for a period would be lifted after the expiration. Will still be in your record tho

Actually, US ban is for life. You can confirm online.

WHY ARE YOU CONFUSING A BAN WITH VISA REFUSAL?

My uncle was denied UK visa for unnecessary excuses, the man just write appeal letter on his own and luckily for him his friend was returning to the UK, he just gave that one to help him and drop it then. Na dem call am to come collect him visa. My sister too did the same after some years and she was given the visa. Sometimes if you are sure of what you submitted and they are telling you they don't trust your application, try appeal challenging their refusal

Because the person that helped him told him he has been banned indirectly and he will need to chill for some years. That's why he came here to confirm.

I think 10 years. However, they don't destroy records but archive them so that in the event of of a critical matter, they can bw exhumed to deal with a person of interest.

It is very possible GDPR or data retention does not apply for visa denial or approval, it will be there for life but does not necessarily mean the person will be denied a second time if there is a genuine reason not to.

It's not possible.
There is an immigration record retention act that regulates what and when certain documents (hard & e copy) are discarded. Depending on the type of application, issued or denied.

Ohhhh. Ok. Chai! Most visa denials (depending on why the visa was denied) may remain so until the doubt is removed. While a ban (depending on reason for it) can affect the persons visa application outcome for years even after the ban has expired.

Advanced nations always keep records but I you know you were denied visa for a trivial reason you can always reapply.
