At some point, the CBN and ther FG agencies have to find a solution to First Bank and their increasing lack of Shame and blatant incompetence.

Last December, I made a POS transaction of 157,600. The money "left" my account but it never got to the account of the recipient. I was told to wait 24 hours that it will be reversed. I didn't mind. I waited and when it was not done after 36 hours, I called their customer care I was told to wait for 3 working days and it will be addressed.

Up until last week, nothing was done and no communication so I decided to call their customer care again. After multiple calls on Monday (January 15th) , I got through to one of them who said the payment went through and I will have to take it up with the recipient as they will sent me the POS receipt.

Okay, I hung up. Waiting patiently for them to send the receipt but it didn't come so I called them on Wednesday (January 17) afternoon. I spoke to two of their customer care staffs and one said she will send the receipt via mail.

I waited.

I got a notification of a new mail from first bank and I was glad I opened the mail, saw an attachment but alas!! I was sent the receipt for a wrong transaction, not just that, she confidently put her name on the mail like she should be proud of it.

I was furious. I called back, spoke with someone else and she said she can only escalate the matter without any solution.

I do not understand what this is about, I stay in another state from where the payment was made which means even with the receipt, I will have to spend transportation and accommodation to get my funds back yet first bank is not doing anything to return the funds to me.

What can I do? I need to put this behind me fast as possible as this matter has gone for long enough and frankly, I am tired.

Update: the money has been reversed. I have gotten the alert

I really really wish I won't have to go make trouble in a first bank branch before they treat this with decency or urgency

Dealing with Nigerian banks can be annoying. It's 50/50 honestly base on my experience and first bank is the one who can determine where the money is cause most times a decline transaction via POS can be reversed to the agent wallet. What you should have done is to tell the agent to log a transaction dispute on his or her terminal, collect the agent contact and monitor everything. But it's kind of dicey now since the transaction was carried out from different location. However, reach out to the POS agent.

Thanks. The recipient is an hotel I stayed at so I can always get to them.

I just need evidence to give the recipient before asking them to go through their accounts

I think you should approach the hotel on time before you actually get the evidence. The status of the transaction can still be trace on the POS terminal.

The thing with hotels like that is that I will have to mail their account department and they will traditionally ask my to go to my bank but if I have evidence from my bank, I will simply attach it

You are right. Don't take it lightly with these people. Bank will tell you goan meet the POS vendor while the hotel will tell you to go to the bank. The situation I don't wish to fine myself. grin

Why not tell the pos operator to reverse it immediately with their machine!
