First, Nigeria does not dash out any money.
It buys goods it needs at international price.

The government get its forex primarily from oil export.
If Dangote refinery sells in Naira, it means it will pay for the crude it buys
from the NNPC in Naira too.
So, the government will be getting less forex than it used to unless it strictly
sells to Dangote from increased crude production.
Of course, some forex will be saved in the process due to the extra value created
and also shipping costs assuming Dangote can produce at a competitive rate.

This only applies to local market, whatever Dangote export is a positive for the government.

Dangote is additional sales (new customer)it doesn't the previous USD payment from others sales once the pipeline are not vandalized and ND is peaceful meaning productions are in optimal

With this there will be no much pressure on dollar and Naira will be strengthened.

Crude sold to Dangote is additional sales to Nigeria. It was never part of what was sold previously, it is a new additional market that should lead to more sales.

Nigeria as more than enough crude to sell to Dangote n at the international market where it will earn forex in dollars.

Domestic sales purchase btw Dangote n NNPC is additional profit to the country n those in charge should ensure the increment is accounted for with substantial earning in the range of the $10 billion we spent importing the same substance else those at the helm have been doing round tripping to the tune of whatever is less of $10 billion.

That is another focus of fraud if Nigeria can account or save ₦10 bullion we spend buying finished product yearly previously before Dangote refinery.

Note Dangote will also be selling refined product to surrounding countries as it will be cheaper than importing from USA or Europe like they use to.

I'll like to ask I believe those who wants to buy oil from Nigeria after the local market has sufficient supply would also buy in Naira?. Because I have this belief that whenever anything good want to happen to our currency enemies of the nation from within and outside finds a way to boycott things.

Nigeria spent over $10 billion importing refined crude last year, If the Dangote refinery can take care of Nigeria needs, are you telling me will still be dashing out over $10 billion dollars to foreign refiners?

In 2022, we spent about $21 billion importing oil

Please explain, I want to learn.
I will help him out to explain to you since you clearly want to learn.
Nigeria will not be saving anything close to $10bn even if Dangote does sell his products to marketers in naira.
For every barrel of crude oil Nigeria gives to Dangote to refine a price is being paid in FX i.e whether Nigeria gives it to dangote to refine and pay back in naira the alternive forgone is what could have been earned in FX if exported .
Now if Dangote sells to marketers in NGN and he repays NNPC in NGN it means Nigeria net FX revenue from crude oil sales will reduce as a result of production.
Where Nigeria will gaina little is because one barrel or crude oil is not one barrel of petrol hence we have to maximally turn all the constituents of crude oil to money and other constituents we can export to enable Dangote recover some FX to settle his loans but it's nothing close to your $10bn savings at all.

Yes, it's good for our naira, it will reduce the praise of sourcing for dollars for petroleum product importations. Which will make us save the dollars we have and this will strengthen the Naira.

What's stops Dangote refinery selling fuel abroad for dollars, it's a no brainey for them as they are in the business to make money not charity , so I suspect we Nigerians will eventually get the short fall .
Re: Marketers Will Pay Naira For Dangote Fuel, Says IPMAN by femarse: 9:08pm On Jan 23
Until the price is release , everyone should stop speculating,

I am desperately hoping for this to be an advantage but also scared as hell, for once, anything dangote has monopoly over always have an upward price curve, it has never been an advantage to the country whatsoever

secondly, the money for the refinery was burrowed in $$ and was agreed will be repaid in $$ meaning if dangote sell most of it's refined product in ## , how will he pay back the loan in $$?

Meaning he will have to use the naira to purchase the saved dollars govt got from not importing fuel anymore of which dangote will be giving priority since NNPC too has a share in the refinery which also translate to the exceess dollars that should take care of other needs will be mop up by dangote

people will still continue to pile pressure on the black market which makes the price to continue to fly higher

Since we sell him the crude in naira, he should also sell the fuel in naira to balance the equation. This is a simple arithmetic but what I know is that, if they can be sincere to themselves, naira will gain a tremendous strength because other nations will be sourcing for it to import fuel to their country. Nigeria will be fine. Kudos to Dangote!

Once Dangote refinery permits naira, it will go a long way in strengthening the currency. with little pressure on the dollar , thereby reducing its demands and not giving way to constant dollar rise.
if you see where those marketers are sourcing for dollars, you will see the desperation and willingness to buy even above with aboki gives, the chains are usually long and everyone keeps adding N50 to the initial price.

It’s the only thing that will save Nigeria at the moment, but the choice is left for dangote group to make not ipman.
Giving that the refinery was built in a free trade zone, I don’t see how dangote will sell in naira, unless NNPC provide crude oil to dangote in naira

Nigeria won't need to spend over $10 billion importing refined crude again. It will have a positive effect on the naira on the short, medium and long run
I doubt he will sell in naira tho, and besides it’s the crude oil sales we use to make dollars, we will no longer have crude oil sales to make 10 billion dollars because we will be giving the crude oil to dangote to refine.
Our crude oil exports will drop drastically and we will no longer make that 10 billion dollars u are talking about

Good for naira. Recall that fuel importation requires forex (USD, Euro, etc.) to purchase

Atleast some pressure will be off the local currency
One question....
My landlord increased my rent cos of all these rubbish....if fuel goes back to 200 per liter , will my rent come down?
If no...the the fuel price should remain that price

The Dollar Nigeria was earning from Crude oil sales was getting canceled by the corresponding importation of refined products.

As it is now, however, one would want to look at it and get optimistic, and even if Dangote decides to, or gets coerced to dominate his prices in Naira, he simply would rather price at a Naira equivalent to Dollar at the black market rate. Anything other than this, expect that refinery to fold up or go redundant like the other government-owned refineries.

The only way out of this would be the government usurping its share of the Dangote refinery by providing them with crude to the tune of what we consume on a daily via the crude oil swap arrangement, and not expecting any profit-takings from the Dangote refinery at the end of each fiscal year.

Now tell me, if you critically examine the above and dwell upon it very well, is a subsidy truly going or gone?

There's a lot that needs to be ironed out for the citizens to truly feel the positive impact of the Dangote refinery.

End of..

Dangote has paid back most of the debt according to cbn but im getting some information that he still owe about $2 billion dollars, that still a huge money.
I really want him to sell to Nigeria in naira, but it’s looks bad for his business. I just hope him n NNPC can work things out.
But like u said, we can’t know the currency he’s selling in till he releases his price list

Which borrowed money are you talking about? The refinery is financed through its shareholding, international grant, and 3bn loan which Emefiele said had been paid back up to 70%.

So which loan?

This is not an issue of fuel price, it’s an issue of releasing some pressure from the naira so it can gain significant value.
Imagine all the oil marketers stop demanding for dollars today, that would be positive for our economy

He is only an additional sale , if crude production can be increased.
Otherwise he is just replacing some of our old customers.

If you know the scale of oil theft in the ND, you would realize we are a long
way from winning the war against oil bunkering.

Re: Marketers Will Pay Naira For Dangote Fuel, Says IPMAN by oshiokpu(m): 9:41pm On Jan 23
I think Nigerians are sitting on a long thing here. Dangote Group is running a business not a charity. Put on a scale of preference, The company’s foremost obligation is to her creditors and to maximize value for her share holders. So If you sell crude to the company in dollars, it will be unfair to ask her not to sell products to off-takers in dollars because you will still be exposing the business to the same exchange rate risk faced by all importers. It is no different from him importing the Crude. I’m sure the company has a lot of dollar denominated loans so what happens to the business if( God forbid) the Naira is devalued further?
My proposed solution:
If the Nigerian government wants the company to sell products in Naira then they should give them the Crude in Naira. Otherwise they will still be sourcing for dollars to buy Crude after selling in Naira!
