Why Do Some Churches Insist On You Becoming Their Member ? by tundewoods(m): 4:46am On Sep 18, 2007
Here is a baffling question that has been on my mind for quite sometime and i feel i should ask you folks in the house,Why do some churches or pastors usually try to convince people to visiting their church for the first time to become their full time members.

For example, the way and manner some church pastors try to convince me to start attending their church simply because i was inspired to worship with them during evening service really amazes me.I tell then "i 'm just visiting their church based on the proximity to my house or office, that already have a church that i attend,so i don't see any point switching to their own church" But to my suprise they keep insisting i become and trying to convince me that i'm not visiting their church by accident but God lead me intentionally to fellowship with them.

Honestly that excuse really gets me upset and infact made me stop attending other churches apart from mine.i noticed that in most cases this scenario is common with all these small churches with Founders/GO's.Is it a crime to want to attend or fellowship with other churches apart from your demonination.I'm The Apostolic by birth and still attend it and sometimes attend The Redeemed but from experience i dare not try attending these small churches because their pastors and usher's want your no & addy to keep calling or visiting till you become their member.

In my opinion,i am of the view that they should understand that we are all not new converts and some of us just want to fellowship at churches close to our offices or homes .What's your own opinion ?

Hmmm. . perhaps there are several reasons why people try to impress visitors to become permanent members of their churches. Some do so out of simply wanting to grow bigger in their size of numbers; others would do so to try and give the impression that they are at least making progress in one form or another.

I've been there before - and the desperation to 'register' poor me as a 'permanent member', na wa! To enter na wahala. . to leave sef, na double wahala!

In any case, people would choose to be in a particular place when they perceive that they are experiencing God for real, and being well-trained to grow and reach out to others. smiley
