IBORI AND CO.quote author=system21 post=128232607]The Nigeria of 1978, $13,100 was ₦10,220. What is the rate today? Bad leadership and corruption destroyed our economy.
Once upon a time in Nigeria, Naira was above dollar. That was when we were GIANT of Africa. Not anymore.
Then, $13,100 was ₦10,220
Today, $13,100 is ₦19,650,000.

Congratulations to all the supporters of failed government and corruption

Another supporter of failed government, ordinary Benin Republic that produces next to nothing their CFA is performing far better than naira and This one is here typing rubbish on public space

Benin republic currency is backed by an European country which means the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund cannot influence it.

And the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund does not decide and inflate the population figures of Benin republic. Which makes Benin republic population low while Nigeria population is high.

This still doesn't mean he opined in anyway that IBB was president in 1978.
That's what I'm taking you up on.
Read and read again. You brought up comprehension. He was not writing in isolation but in response to the Op. These are the key statements in the two.
The Nigeria of 1978, $13,100 was ₦10,220. What is the rate today? Bad leadership and corruption destroyed our economy.

Kids of nowadays, SMH!. When you stopped history in schools, this is what you get- ignorance!, blissful ignorance!. If you knew the level of great hardships that our parents went through during the period, you won't be here heaping a satanic worship on a man who initiated the begining of economic woes on Nigeria.
The Op said naira was good in 1978 and bad leadership killed it since then.
The guy's first response was to call the Op a kid, then went on to claim he's praising someone while our parents went through hardship during the period which he inadvertently blamed on IBB.
Note that the period brought up by the Op is 1978 which is what the other guy was responding to. So, the guy's response seemed to imply that IBB had something to do with the hardship in 1978.

Do you understand how to draw inference from statements now or you need further lecture?

Nigerians killed nigeria..the whites left a thriving economy...the educated and foolish Nigerians took over and messed everything up..they couldn't even differentiate their left from their right. Always taking the advise that will destroy them..one idiot even said nigeria has so much money the problem was how to spend it...to show u how incompetent the ppl that managed us are and it transcends various spheres of the Nigerian economy..take a look at hospitals managed by missionaries and their current state after those guys handed over those facilities,j you will realise there Is something inherently wrong with an average nigerian education aside...common sense is not actually common. Look at missionary owned school and their current state after they were handed over to the govt..check their current state....roads..police station etc.

Nope, the whytes left a rubbish economy but what shocked them was that the economy started to thrive after they left and they sponsored the Igbos and northerners to start a civil war against the Yoruba region which was making Nigeria thrive just to make sure it stops thriving because the "thriving" was somehow limited to the Yoruba region.

Go and read the thread in the link below with a clear mind and you'll know what and who was responsible for Nigeria's negative turnout.

You're beginning to display signs of chronic stupidity.

I just educated you on inference and instead of a thank you, your response shows a high level of crass idiocy. Are you sure you're OK?

The collapse of the naira was inevitable when the oil price crashed in 1982. Government tried delay tactics, but by 1989, the reality set in.

You know the history. Seems you read a lot grin grin grin

Since you knew the collapse was inevitable, why were you expecting something different in this era?

Why bother yourself on a bunch of semi literates?. They could comfortably compare the economy of 1978 with 2024, but would have mental seizures when 1978 is also compared with 1985-9. If you can travel back to 1978, why not 1985-9.

Simple. They did not diversify, so they ran out of the money needed to keep the naira strong. Hence , they had to devalue or else....

(Yes, tinubu was part of the APC government from the word go in 2015).
while I believe all Nigerian politicians are thieves that deserve stoning, there is a very big difference between APC political party and APC led federal government. In this administration for instance, El Rufai is a top member of Apc but not influential in the administration while Cardoso is influential in the administration but worthless in the party

mind you the $1700 in 1970 is worth 6.3million naira today... with 200k today you can own a car better than that 1970 toyota corrolla.

so now ask yourself who is dull between both of us. mtcheew...

Forget all those $1700 is x in 2024.

Let’s do it this way. If I earn 60naira as a civil servant in 1970, can I afford to buy a $1700 car in 1970?

Yes or no?

You all talk like in 1970, everybody dey drive latest car and build latest house because say dollar to naira na 1:1.

i won't go through this route with you, because i am very sure. Hunger is finishing you wherever you are. I just want to give you a reminder that, the shege hasn't started. Two years from now, then you can start complaining, then after another 3 year. By then jagaban will be having his second term. The shege banza would start. Just have in mind i have a cleaner job for you. By then grin.

I didn't vote for tinubu, i did my part for a better Nigeria, which i came out to vote. Than seating in my house and only praying for a better Nigeria.

so karma has nothing on me. But more blessings and growth. But you see all those who came out to cause problems. Those monarch, anyways two has been killed already. Karma will visit more.

Actions have consequences. wink

What was the population of Nigeria then?
How many Nigerians consumed imported products then?
Your grandparents likely survived on pounded yam and bitter leaf soup back then. Now that you chase after oyinbo things without producing anything to export what do you expect?

Population (an active working population)is always a plus to economic growth.. Check our population skewness..over 122m fall in the range 25-44years old.. Go check out china decade development plan and come back to thank me...China today is a top super power cos it maximised it's population far back..
