As we navigate the challenges of economic hardship in Nigeria, it is crucial to reflect on the ethical choices we make, especially when it comes to our earnings. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the significance of halal sustenance, that this life is temporary, and our actions will be accounted for in the eternal Hereafter.

In the face of economic difficulties, the allure of quick, albeit unlawful, gains may be tempting. However, let us be mindful that the temporary relief such earnings provide carries eternal consequences. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has prohibited certain means of acquiring wealth, and our commitment to halal earnings is a testament to our faith and trust in His divine provisions.

Allah says:

"And do not consume one another's wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]." (Quran 2:188)"

In closing, it is important to discern genuine scholars from those who may mislead. There are individuals who, unfortunately, lend an ear to half-backed scholars subtly endorsing unlawful practices.

A genuine scholar, firmly grounded in knowledge, would unequivocally discourage engaging in illicit activities such as 'yahoo yahoo' or any form of dishonest earnings. True scholars are guardians of the ethical and lawful principles outlined in Islam, guiding us toward righteousness, patience, and trust in Allah's mercy during challenging times.

May Allah grant us strength, resilience, and the wisdom to make choices that align with His commandments.
