Penkelemess In The Power Ministry by OsunOriginal: 10:03am On Feb 04 |
To say that power supply situation in the country is getting worse is an understatement. The situation is, to say the least, pathetic. What we face today has clearly eroded whatever investment has gone into power supply over the years. With Tinubu in Aso Rock, we had hoped that power supply situation in the country would improve given his antecedent as the brain behind EAS/Egbin project which was originally midwifed to address the power needs of Lagosians. We had hoped a visionary leader like him would be able to build quickly on whatever was on ground and improve power supply for economic prosperity. Tinubu came in and announced Adelabu as the minister of power. Within weeks, power supply nose-dived, and it has been one trouble per week since then. If it is not gas supply shortage, it would be gas pipeline leakage. If not pipeline leakage, it would be a problem with a major transformer. First, his appointment as the minister of power was a rude shock to many of us who had expected a tested hand. We couldn't understand the basis for his appointment as the minister of power. This man has only been a deputy governor in the corruption ridden CBN where he made money for himself and enjoyed his days inside air-conditioned office. The AC I doubt he knows how it works. Now he is our power minister. Someone said he is a first-class accounting graduate. The question is, how has he brought that to bear on power ministry? Shouldn't even this be an embarrassment to other first-class graduates? Ordinary policy direction, he hasn't shared with Nigerians. Today, we don't know what is going on in that ministry. All we see daily is epileptic power supply and Adelabu frequently flying in and out of Ibadan where he is nursing a governorship ambition. Anyway, the "penkele-mess" in the ministry needs to be cleaned. The president needs to step in and do the needful. Power supply is the lifeblood of any country and therefore, its management shouldn't be handed to just any politician. 9 Likes

It is so because a significant amount of the country's power generation comes from hydro power. That is why dry season is the best time to assess public power supply not when it is raining like many ignorant Nigerians do. Hydroelectric dams harness the potential energy of water stored in reservoirs to produce electricity by allowing this water to flow through turbines. However, during periods of drought, characterized by reduced rainfall, the influx of water into these reservoirs diminishes. Consequently, with reservoir levels dropping and less water available for release, the capacity of hydroelectric dams to generate power also decreases. 2 Likes |

You're right to some extent op, I expected Jagaban to have appointed an erudite technocrat like Raji Fashola into the power ministry since he swore by Sango and Orunmila that a serious government can solve Nigeria's power problems within six months. We're in the eight month of this administration now and most Nigerians can neither afford petrol for their generators or even cheap candles for their houses therefore something needs to be done fast |

first of all penkelemess isn't the problem, he is a banker and has no business being in the power sector, we can only solely blame the president for assigning such a very delicate, technical, and science-oriented portfolio to someone who has never been a science student, has no knowledge or experience about anything technical. well, I believe there is a particular reason for that decision, it is an open secret that Penkele is gunning for the Oyo state governorship seat in 2027 and we all know how big the budget is for the power ministry. secondly, the problem is about policy, since we can't generate enough power, i would have expected the president and his team to have mapped out s strategy to harness renewable energy. it would have been good if govt had partnered with foreign solar product production companies in China to establish in Nigeria and produce solar products for Nigerians at a reduced rate. at least people will have an alternative to nepa the third is finance, after having those companies set up in Nigeria, the govt can give out loans to FG workers, state workers, and co to purchase these items and pay back, the issue of sending 50k to Nigerians is totally stupid, such measures will not have any effect at all. but the 200 billion spent on that dubious scheme could have been better diverted to better use. last;y , govt should have set up a research team, which will comprise seasoned scientists and notable policymakers to design a framework for how to reduce the nation's dependence on fossil energy, and hydro energy and to bring out new ways we can better and more effectively harness other potentials in our environment 1 Like |

onatisi: Thank you. Why power supply has gone from bad to worse shortly Adelabu took over is what I'm still trying to wrap my head around. He wants to be Oyo governor and ordinary power ministry he couldn't manage properly. Oyo state people would be looking for something other than good governance to make this one their governor. This assignment has shown beyond reasonable doubt that Adelabu is incompetent. Power supply has never been this bad. Even NEPA time was better. 4 Likes |

with this band A new pricing, i think I read it somewhere online where it was written that Nepa will be giving more priority to band a users. i won't be surprised if this is a ploy to make people comply with the price increase, politics seems to be the main bane of Nigeria developmental progress OsunOriginal: |

Breweries, bottling companies, banks ,will shutdown many branches nationwide soon to save costs, why not onject the funds for the coastal highway into the power sector. We need to organize a national apology to buhari and his team. The present team is no team at all but expert professionals on ineptitude. Building a coastal highway to nowhere when the electricity infrastructure is down |

kettykin: You people don't know what Tinubu and his team believes They believe we should spend out of this situation by doing capital projects and social services , this will form the crux of this administration economic policies So don't be surprised if another big Capital project like the coastal road is announced |
