It's maybe because the bureaucracy variant we have in Africa in which she may have been raise was culture from the old master slave mental exchange.

Your superior is the master and is always right. While as inferior, You always wrong even if you are right. I mean you always wrong. Always!

Oga carry your hallucinations go another place. Someone is telling her experience and others too have admitted to experiencing same in Canada but you here on NL somehow figured she is not telling the truth. Just because you lie with every breath you take doesn't mean everyone is like you. Banza kawaii.

The employer doesn't want her pity
We make use of sorry a lot here even when we're not at fault
Just like telling someone sorry when bereaved instead of saying sorry for your loss, accept my condolences etc

We are just use to some weird English communications in Naija that needs modification when interacting with other people.

You for use 'Abeg' na

Oyibo people and wahala, that's not enough to fire someone. They should know that she is African and we communicate somewhat differently

All they need do is give her time to adjust

She's a social care worker dealing with vulnerable people and you never can tell the physical, emotional or mental circumstances of her employer, any slightest thing can make them yank someone off!!
If the employer forbids sorry, why repeating it and complain of being sacked?

I thought they said they were open to cultural diversity.
My dear if you were a Muslim from Pakistan and those
Arab countries, they would have given you an award for
calling for their heads. That deep-freezer country call
Canada. If things were done properly back home, the
most reasonable Nigerians would prefer a normal fridge
to a deep freezer.
Re: Nigerian Lady Fired From New Job In Canada For Saying Sorry Too Much by Bahamas95(m): 2:42pm On Feb 06
Before traveling to any country do research about that country, what's normal in your country could be a taboo somewhere else.

One of my ex girlfriends was like that, any little thing she would say "I am sorry" even if she didn't offend me. She will just assume something in her head and the next thing is to apologise......I couldn't take it anymore because she was too timid for my liking, I broke up with her. That wasn't the main reason for the breakup sha but it was part of it.

I like confident girls, she lacks what it takes to represent me if am not around.

How can you sit in Nigeria and know what the truth is in Canada

You see many of these guys proving smart on Nairaland are complete foolish guys displaying their foolishness with pride and arrogance .

Can you just imagine the guy saying she's yet to say the truth. What truth?
A white man can sack you for something as simple as too much greeting.
Their culture is different from ours.

Good morning
Good afternoon
How are you doing
Good evening.

You can be sacked.

A friend's neighbor in the US once warned him to stop greeting him. He complained the greetings are too much. Now imagine if the person is the boss of my friend.

This is what obtains in all anglophone countries. Go to England this is general mode of communication. All English speaking people have things in common such as these

Many Nigerians are used to saying SORRY instead of EXCUSE ME and that can lead to a whole lot of unwarranted "SORRY" especially in an office with high verbal communication rate.

SORRY, where is the door
EXCUSE ME where is the door.

So people living in Canada and America are what?
If you know your history, you'll understand that it's the same people living in England that traveled down to US and Canada and are living there till date

Re: Nigerian Lady Fired From New Job In Canada For Saying Sorry Too Much by sukkot: 3:16pm On Feb 06
If you really psycho analyze the issue it is a case of a person with superiority complex feeling subordinated by an inferior and it triggers anger because she feels you are in no position to say sorry to her because you saying sorry to her moves her from a position of authority to someone who is helpless. Like how dare you say sorry to me ? Who are you to say sorry to me ? You are a third world vermin

I bet you if it was a white person who said sorry all the time it wouldn’t be an issue. Like gloriousgbola said it is Canadian to say sorry all the time

As black people you are just tolerated so learn to say less and listen more when you are in these white countries . Any wrong move from you will trigger anger and micro aggressions and bullying and sacking
