In July/August, the President gave 3billion-5billion to states as palliatives, however, most state Governors shared nothing to their citizens. Nobody is holding them responsible for sitting on the palliative funds. Governors are spending very recklessly on food, vehicle budgets, etc. Citizens of each state appears to be redundant, crawl into their shells, hardly demand accountability from their Governors allowing them get away with blue murder.

As much as i share your thought and agree, my broda their is no better place to grab a catfish than the "head"

Your own propaganda is to absorb the sheer irresponsibility of your Governor?. The President has signed the new electricity bill whereby the states can generate and transmit power. Has your Governor followed through? or you've been directed to scream at Abuja when your Governor has been given the power to attract investors and light up your state. You go dey alright.

All your useless Tinubu is interested in is to shift responsibility while holding bulk of the money. Let him sign for resource control then. Muumuu people everywhere

Lagos is having a rail system after over 24 years of fat federal allocation and humongous IGR+debt.

Most state govs are mirrors of the Federal. If we get Federal right, states so have no choice than to sit up.

Don't make it about rail - that was only an example, and Lagos doesn't get the highest federal allocation either. Several States have much much more. What have they done with it? Lagos found ways to grow its IGR on its own too - why are other States so lax about this?

Even the ones that receive relatively little by way of allocations, what little have they done with it? Gombe is a shining example of a State that has done well with the little it was given. So what excuse do others have?

State governors being a mirror of the federal government is just another convenient excuse for refusing to be personally responsible. Your state governor is within your reach while the president is far removed from you. If you want to see immediate improvements in your standard of living, make sure your State governor does right by you. But Nigerians won't do that because it is easier to rant against the centre - that doesn't require any intentional actions.

1000%. All the other states just have a basket full of excuses. Someone up in the thread suggested that maybe governors used juju on citizen that they never put their governors on the spot.

Can you imagine?! Just to collect money and pay workers is an Herculean task for them. Zero policies, zero initiatives, zero wealth creation, nothing! Nigeria!

One fact we Nigerians always forget is that Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers states could have decided to become redundant like others, if they so chose to.

Being a governor in Nigeria is a direct access to massive wealth and living a life of opulence because your subjects don't even care or disturb you. Everyone disturbs the president even though you get allocation every month plus the security vote money. Just loot and manipulate the people to think that its only the president that is responsible for their well being. Such a tragedy.

Stop pulling examples out of your behind then
Lagos is among the states that get the highest allocation. Stop fishing for idiots. The IGR you're talking of is as a result of its vantage position as the commercial nerve Centre of the country and not any deliberate policy by the state. The same model used by Lagos had been applied in Osun and Ekiti with disastrous of indifferent results at best.

What has Gombe done? The states are majorly underfunded except for the major oil producing states which is not up to one-third of the states
The FG holds the vast majority of our commonwealth.

Is your Governor not collecting more money since the removal of subsidy?. What's he been doing with more money he collects?, he chases you away to go bark at Abuja while he steals away your future and that of your family.

They have no clue what their state governors are doing. Tragic isn't?
I don't pity the FG though, they love to be in the center of everything so they should enjoy the attacks and criticisms. They seem to forget that without the states performing at their optimal level, all their federal efforts won't achieve much.
Re: What Are The Governors Doing With The Increased Allocation? by commoditiesnig: 12:11pm On Feb 07
Good submission. This is what concerned citizens have been asking for years. What exactly are the Governors doing with huge allocations received monthly?

femisplash:
The monthly allocations accrued to the states have seen a big increase since the removal of fuel subsidy. January 2024, FAAC shared 1.13trillion. In December 2023, 1.13trillion was shared, in November 2023, 1.78trillion shared. In August 2023, 1.13trillion was shared.

These respective allocations were a big boost from 786billion that was shared on May 2023 at the tenure end of the last Administration.

The President had a talk with the Governors over the subsidy removal and promised increased allocations to enable them cushion the effects and help them deliver to their people.

So far, Governors haven't shown commiserable deliverables to the increase in allocation at their disposals. It appears to be that the Governors are less interested in driving the vision of the president than lining their pockets while their people groan and complain under their watch.

The media are not putting the pressure on the Governors, everyone's eyes are fixed on the President.

They are marrying more wives.
The increase allocation is a tactical way of buying votes. Tinubu knows the power that governors possessed that is why he is bribing them.

At times I wonder the kind of generation that this country is breeding. Someone pointed an important observation and instead of a discourse around the topic. They came writing incoherent messages. Is it Tinubu that takes the money from the governors. Monitor and criticise your governor. Most of the governors are stealing the money and converted the money to dollars because they can’t take it to banks for fear of being traced,People should be vigilant and query their spending. Most states are collecting over 250% of what the used to collect pre May 2023.

FG has more financial obligations; a plethora of universities, teaching hospitals, more roads to fix, more civil servants than state governments, more pensioners, more Senators and rep members, more judges, the armed forces and the police. Unless you're just deliberately trying to feign ignorance, the governors are stealing money without doing anything tangible in their stares, I'm looking at an excel sheet highlighting what watch state got in November and the least amount is 6b, some states like Rivers got 22b plus the over 15b igr, now pray tell, what did the governor do with 40b cash in November?

Lol. Okay let's take rail and finish with it.

1. According to Sanwo Olu, the rail projects collectively have/will cost 100 bn naira.

In Q2/H1 of 2023, Delta alone collected N103bn; Akwa Ibom collected N70bn; Rivers collected 70bn.

This is a half-years allocation. So you are telling me that these states could not, over say 5 years, use some of this money along with private funding, to build basic rail systems. What a shameful thing to suggest.

2. Of course Lagos IGR is a result of deliberate tax structures set up by the State. Yes it enjoys an advantage in being a major commercial nerve centre. But it still had to be clever about harnessing that advantage. I'm speaking simple English here: your State does not have to raise the same amount of IGR as Lagos. That is not and has never been the suggestion. The suggestion is that your State should maximise its IGR potential. I wonder what reason you are going to give as to why States cannot collect taxes more efficiently.

Under normal circumstances, each states governor should look after their citizens in all ramifications. The pressure should not be on the federal government. I don't know why we have federal systems of government. The local authorities , and the states should provide for their citizens in all areas of human endovours.

Really? I didn't know Lagos used its federal allocation to build the rails. If we're to go by your analogy, the rail in Lagos should have been built since 2012 when the IGR was 155bn that year. Note that the value of 155bn then far exceeds even 300bn today. So, if you're saying every state should work at the same pace with Lagos, then you have to wait till each particular state accumulates over 1trn debt and almost 700bn IGR before we start expecting them to build rails.
There's no evidence that each state is not maximising its IGR potential except you mean you want them to engage in double taxation by taxing bank branches and telecoms cells like Kogi attempted in 2023. Out of over 12million cars plying Nigerian roads, more than half have their papers done in Lagos even when they do be used in other states.

Gombe is still lagging behind seriously in many development indices. It is number 31 on igr list for example since that's what you're using to measure states.

Nobody is disinterested. But govs can't be made bogeymen to excuse shining the searchlight on FG. That's corny reasoning and its daft to be frank

If you can say this then it means you don't understand basic economics. Everything is interwoven, if states are functioning well then economic activities will continue and things will be better. We are not ready. Lol. You can blame Tinubu/FG and still hold your governors accountable - it's not that hard. For them, it's better that Nigeria is destroyed beyond repair so they can do the victory lap dance because their failure Irupete Obi lost deservingly. Lol

I'm confident Asiwaj Bola Ahmed Tinubu will get things right. He has made the hardest decisions needed to steer the economy of this country aright. The political will is there. I'm certain we will start getting positive results of his policies by next year. Then Irupete Obi go chop his second breakfast come 2027. All allocations to local governments what do they use it for.
