In Kogi State's Lokogoma phase 1 area of Lokoja, a fuel-laden tanker caught fire, resulting in one injury.

The incident occurred around 3 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2024, causing significant traffic congestion as motorists navigated through a single lane.

Eyewitnesses reported the tanker exploding upon entry into the filling station, engulfing it in flames.

"We initially mistook the filling station for the source of the fire, but upon closer inspection, we realized it was the tanker," stated a witness to the Daily Trust.

During the fire suppression efforts, the fuel station's director sustained burns, according to Adebayo Adeyemi, a nearby shop owner.

Local shop owners and filling station operators credited swift action by security personnel and compassionate individuals for preventing further destruction.

Despite the danger, praise was directed at the tanker driver for courageously maneuvering the vehicle out of the filling station before emergency responders arrived.

William Aya, the state police spokesperson, confirmed no fatalities in the incident.
