As a fulltime business, I suggest starting with a minimum of 5,000 birds, divided into 2,500 per house. Poultry is a volume business. Anything less than 5,000 is a side hustle. You can still have a pen that can take 5,000 or 10,000 layers but demarcated into 2 houses. Initiate with the first 2,500, and after 4 months, introduce the other2,500. Why? If you only have one pen house, what occurs when it's time to sell the birds? You risk losing all your customers and facing a 4-month hiatus without eggs to sell. When the new birds start laying eggs, you restart from scratch trying to regain your customers.
