It funny everyone is just saying local rice is stone filled and the colour of this one is bad.... Here in Jos, in Katako market to be precise, there are machines used to de-stone the rice and a bag of about 90 -95 measures(mudu) would cost you just 500 naira to de-stone and 500 naira for polishing the rice, and it comes out real clean.

Shocker : most people don't even know that the same local rice after the process is what the buy in repackaged bags as foreign rice.

I wonder why a seller can't remove stones. No value addition. They just buy from bush market and are after killer profit. That's why they can't export it far away.
Do you know how much a sortex machine cost??..

The rejected stone has become the chief cornerstone, smile Tinubu well done, you have indeed relegated Nigerians. Rice that farmers use to feed fish is what humans are now rushing. It simply means we are competing with fish. Shege Promax.

Exactly what I wanted to say

Some selected individuals usually have machine in the market. Due to cost of fuel, the price may be a little bit higher than before. When I was Taraba back then in 2018, whenever we buy local rice, we would take it to the machine for stone removal. And it was cheap then.

But seriously though, a mudu was just around N600 like last year woh, and dat for a very clean with no stone!. Just wetin dey happen 4 country sef

This is what it has come down to.

Big eyes with brown teeth, wants to literally make everyone that is not him, his family, or his corrupt friends, - eat stone and sand on a daily basis. Soon, dem go begin tell us say stone and sand have so much vitamin S, say scientists never figure that one out, say na dem first find out.

Security forces, he has not balanced yet. Still discriminating against Igbos, cross rivers, and akwa ibom. Igbos, we know that this wicked delusional man, is a very very useless person. We should be weary about letting him decide the fate of our tribe. The vagabo^d is very incompetent in anything progress. We have to do something, we have to remind him for the last time, if he don't heed, then we should really decide on our future.

So, considering the rate at which the price of foodstuffs keep increasing by the day, I decided to buy enough rice to last a while.
I went to a local market here in Southern Kaduna (where I work) to get my rice. These local markets are open only once a week, with traders and buyers from far and wide coming to make the most of it.
I was able to get local, clean rice at the rate of N1,500 per mudu (our unit of measurement here grin). I bought 15 mudus, that's N22,500 and got 1 extra mudu free after scoping the mama to the best of my ability.
I think it was a good purchase considering how our brothers in the south are lamenting the cost of food over there.
What's the situation in your area?
which market? Manchok or kagoro

It’s a good deal.

I know this rice, it’s nice but it has some little stones/sand in it. If you want to prepare it, first of all parboil the rice, then you wash and filter it properly (like 6 times).

make sure the starch and stones are out totally. Excessive eating of rice mixed with stone could result to appendix issues, that’s why I don’t like these local rice undecided.

You are on point. Infact I saw this happen with my own korokoro eyes. The local rice was bagged into this rice bag called 'tomato', while they loaded
to go to Portharcourt that day.

Our Agriculture Situations Is Too Bad:
•We Nigerians are not serious on this Rice Productions and other Agricultural Sector development!
For over 6- Decades(60 years) we can't produce Rice -Free of Stones and with all the Trillions Anchor Borrowers Money, why can't we improve on -Rice Production, Cassava Variety,Beans- with different Varieties, etc ,for Self Sufficiency?
We become Lazy that we can't feed ourselves, yet - Indian of 1.4 Billions People are feeding themselves and are Exporting Abroad,to earn FOREX! Same with China of 1.4Billion People!
We are all drinking -Crude Oil and so,we forget the Agriculture!
We allowed the Politicians ( the Governors, the Executive, the Legislature- National Assembly Senators and House of Reps )and the States Assembly are only moving Money here and there for their Selfish reasons, while the States People are lamenting and Suffering!
We Should All be Ashamed!

I thought they said local rice does not have starch is it not the same as Abakaliki rice?

local rice has starch with plenty of sand

You can’t even differentiate whether it’s starchy or sandy while washing it.

That’s why you need to first parboil the rice, then wash and filter it severely and thoroughly before cooking it.

Exactly, there are even other top notch manufacturer bags like Stallion et el... Each with different prices, the secret now is buying a good quality rice and this is based off texture not colour or stones.
