Devaluation of the Naira which means more Naira revenue. Also the removal of subsidy has reduced the amount of petrol consumed. Petrol needs to revert to market price of approx N1200 because smuggling will resume and we will be back to square 1. That is why I say I am not happy with him that he seems to have backtracked and has introduced subsidy through the back door.
Devaluation of naira cannot pay subsidy. Subsidy is actually dollar denominated. Fuel is an imported product

My question here is that is it not the same APC party that had Buhari as president. During the time of Buhari we were told to be patient after they spent the first 4 years blaming the Jonathan administration for everything. We are suppose to be consolidating on the gains, if there was any, of the past administration of the same party, and not for a worsening situation like we are having at the moment.

Perhaps, it would have been nice to apply the same pressure on Buhari and the governors then. Buhari had zero economic plan.

Don't get me wrong. I am not against the governors being held to account. I am saying there are 1,305 other persons, including governors, their deputies, representatives, senators and local government administrators who our people let off the hook.

For example, which governor has a sensible economic plan for his state? Some states are bigger than some countries in the world a d they want the president to run them while the governors gallivant like headless chickens.

Look at Wike. As governor of Rivers, he did not agree for IPOB to take root and this guy was opposed to Buhari. But the other governors allowed IPOB to fester. Look at Abuja, as soon as kidnappers ran amok, Wike swung to action. Within a month, people are being arrested for kidnapping. Same Wike is collecting ground rent and find8ng ways to revamp revenue. With increased revenue and projects, jobs would flow and the economy would move.

Other governors are so useless that they can't tackle insecurity. They can't come up with innovative ideas for revenue generation. They can't provide ordinary buses to move their people at subsidized rates. They can't even open farmers markets for people to buy products off farmers.

They only travel abroad and organize themselves into a demonic pressure group to call out the president.

Nigeria developed in the first republic because the leaders looked inwards. Tafawa Balewa did not carry out most of the projects in the regions. The premiers did.

Why are the governors not working?

I did not allege it. That is an accusation that has been in the public domain for years. Atiku himself admitted to Kadaria Ahmed that he'd make his friends rich because they deserve to be rich. See links below:

https://www.channelstv.com/2019/01/16/im-not-going-to-enrich-members-of-my-family-but-my-friends-atiku/

Obasanjo and El Rufai adduced to Atiku's corruption in their books. Atiku never denied or made anti-corruption pretences. Obasanjo couldn't have prosecuted Atiku as Atiku had immunity. Remember that Obasanjo illegally declared Atiku's seat vacant in 2006. Tinubu gave Atiku succour.

Also recall that there are several allegations against Atiku in the US pertaining to him using his ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas, to launder money through the US real estate market. Atiku's dealings with a former US senator sent the senator to jail.

As for the sale of national assets, PDP messed it up. It was seen as a bazaar. Atiku was Chairman of National Privatization Council.

With Atiku's antecedents and posturing, it is hard to trust him with the national assets and national treasury.

It is one thing to be corrupt, it is completely insane to be proud of it.
All well and good. With Tinubu's alpha beta antecedents which was confirmed by Dapo Apara former MD of Alpha beta, can you in all honesty say Tinubu is more trustworthy than Atiku when it comes to pilfering from the national treasury.

Why are you confusing honesty with pride?

In all your balablu town hall posts you have failed to show where he was convicted of corruption.

Meanwhile Tinubu has shown himself to be a rogue who raises money from the masses and receives federal allocation on their behalf but fails to provide services and utilities to match. Moreover, Buhari, Tinubu and APC corruption has been worse than PDP’s as confirmed by TI and the huge growth in debt with no impact on high unemployment etc.

We had no money as at May 29. We devalued the Naira which means the government is now getting 4 times more Naira that it did for every barrel of crude it sells. This means that for every dollar it used to get it needs less dollars to convert to Naira to meet its local obligations. Which means it can keep more of the dollars it earns and use for other things like subsidy although I have said subsidy should be removed totally. We are feeling pain because we did. It do what we needed to do at the right time. Petrol should be N1200, we are merely delaying the pain by reintroducing subsidy through the back door. If petrol needs to go to N2000, so be it. We need to change our habits. They don’t drive the cars we drive in Europe because petrol is expensive. It is only in Nigeria you will see a poor man driving a V8 gas guzzling used Lexus.

Whoever became president of Nigeria these problems would have manifested. Of the 3, Tinubu was and remains the most capable of solving the problem, if he can’t none of the 3 can…certainly not Peter Obi. My problem is that he seems to be back tracking on subsidy. The medicine needs to be swallowed. People need to change their habits, a poor man has no business driving a 5 liter SUV, poor Nigerians have no business, eating bread made with imported flour, eat akara and ogi like our fathers made with local farmed ingredients, poor people have no business using imported hair, poor people have no business consuming staples that are imported. My problem is that unless we feel the pain we will not change and I am beginning to worry that Tinubu is backtracking because of the pain….the pain needs to be felt for people to change their habits.

Tinubu did not create this problem, Buhari and jonathan did.

Whoever became president, Nigeria would have fallen and Petrol prices would have gone up resulting in inflation..it was unavoidable. All 3 candidates said they would remove subsidy and float the Naira. We were borrowing to subsidize petrol, we borrowed so much that the oil we produce in future has already been sold. The Chinese had stopped lending us money years ago. There is no money. If Obi or Atiku tells you today they would have removed sibsidy gradually, ask them where would they have gotten the money to continue the subsidy?

We cannot continue with our penchant for imported goods….this is exactly what Peter obi has been preaching that we need to move from consumption to production. This is how moving from consumption to production looks like, you have to make imported goods so expensive that we are forced to look inwards. When did bread become part of the diet of a poor Nigerian? If you must eat bread produce your flour locally!,,

If he is indeed transforming Nigeria like you analysed, just type AMEN to that humble prayer.

Yes.

For many years, we have been living in a bubble. We subsidized the consumption by the rich. Our refineries have not been producing. There was pervasive insecurity. Oil theft was rife. Chinese were stealing from us. We started handing out dollars to people for reasons that don't make sense. The subsidy was consistently being abused by people who claimed it and still took the products across the borders. Local fuel consumption was inflated. There were no investments in critical infrastructure. Questionable billionaires emerged following the start of the 4th republic. The bought banks and no one knows the source of their incomes. Industries completely collapsed and religion became rife.

Infact, we started borrowing to pay salaries and subsidies. People like Professor Usman Yusuf in NHIS used their positions to rob the nation. Today, they are sudden moralists for a better Nigeria.

What Tinubu is doing is an attempt to refocus things so that the pains will not be even more in the future. Tinubu demonstrates the boldness many before him lacked. We can see some improvements in certain areas. For example, after the kidnap of the Nabeeha family and the killing of Nabeeha herself, we can see how Wike and Co swung into action and have arrested the masterminds. Our military chiefs are not talking too much and are doing the job.

I recall when they started partitioning roads in Lagos for BRT. As soon as the buses were rolled out, no one criticized Tinubu again. So the suffering we are currently facing are pains that will pass.

We only call on Tinubu to go after the sponsors of terrorism, banditry and rogue businessmen inflating prices. We also call on governors to show workings. It is evil for PDP governors to be attacking the president when they should be worried and working harder for their people.

As a people, let us put the same pressure on the governors, representatives and senators as we put on the president.

If the elections hold again, I'd still throw my weight behind Tinubu. Atiku had his time, and he had nothing to show for it beyond plundering national assets to cronies. He is one of the architects of the current mess and should take responsibility. He also lacks understanding of presidential processes. Peter Obi is just a revolt against the status quo and people conveniently forgot he was a governor as well and Anambra did not improve.

Any sincere Nigerian would make suggestions to help the nation.
You to explain taya...it very very difficult to defend failure. What a pitiful situation you got yourself into

Did you go to school, do you understand basic arithmetic? As at May 28 2023, if Nigeria gets $1b from oil, they convert it at the official rate and it is N 400b. Today the dollar is approx 1600, which means the same $1b is converted to the government coffers and becomes N1.6 trillion…that is 4 times what used to enter the government coffers.

Now, government’s Naira expenditure has not gone up by a factor of 4. For instance salaries have not gone up 4 fold, Naira repayment of previous government domestic debts have not and will not go up, because the loans were in the past and the repayment are fixed in Naira. So let’s say govt expenses have gone up to N600b from N400b, it means government needs only $400m of the $1b it earns from oil ($400m x 1600 = N640m) to meet its Naira obligations, which leaves it with $600m…..and that is how they are still able to pay subsidy. Without floating the Naira they would not have been able to. That said, there should be absolutely no subsidy. We need to change our habits. The only way you change habits is to make them painful. People need to think twice before they embark on a journey, when choosing the type of cars they buy etc.
