UNBELIEVABLE AS STUDENTS OF KWASU ÄTTÃCKËD MALETE POLICE STATION OVER NDLEA RÄID

Aggrieved students of Kwara State University, Malete, launched an attack on the divisional police station in the town following a raid on suspected black spots by operatives of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) around the school premises.

Reacting to the incident, the Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, explained that the gatherings, which began in the afternoon, were fueled by grievances related to the recent NDLEA raids.

Students, carrying placards with inscriptions such as "Say No to NDLEA," marched from various parts of the town to express their dissent. Efforts were made to engage with the students and restore peace, but tensions escalated when students mistook armed policemen from another unit for NDLEA operatives.

This misunderstanding led to students chasing the policemen to the Malete Divisional Police Headquarters, where they began throwing stones at the police station, causing damage to the rooftop and vehicles parked within.

In response, the police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd and prevent further damage. One police officer sustained minor injuries during the incident.
