(3) Ogbono soup

Ogbono Soup is a super tasty, nutrient-dense soup made with Ogbono seeds (African wild mango seeds). It’s a draw soup just like Okro with enough viscosity to have it sticky to a ‘swallow’ for a sumptuous meal experience. It is also not a soup you need to break the bank for as with N1,000 you can have it made:

N250 – Ogbono seeds

N150 – Pepper

N200 – Palm Oil

N300 – Panla (to give it some spice if you want)

One serving abi you will eat it for one week?

I went to a woman who sells foodstuffs close to me to get ogbono because it's been more than 6 months I last cooked it. I had a budget of #500 only to get there and she said a cup is #1000 that she also have the one of #700, I just turned back.

What sort of taste without any crayfish?

So add crayfish N200. Reduce kponmo to N200. Reduce pepper to N100, a few fresh peppers will be fine. N100 balance for 1 small onion.

fineberry:
what is that thickener ?
Please can you just explain the process of preparing this soup? Thanks

Well, thickener helps to hold the soup together and avoid it being watery.

There's Achi, Ofor, Ukpo.

Oha soup is a traditional Igbo soup.

Steps in making it.

Boil your meat, fish or whatever protein you want to eat it with for like 7mins with salt, Maggi and pepper.

When the protein looks soft or chewable, add your red Oil, allow to boil for like 10mins, add the thickner.

Stir it so that the thickner will dissolve in the pot well. After that, add your grinded crayfish and small pepper.

Add your sliced Uziza leave or you can add the pounded Uziza seed.

Allow to steam for like 5mins.

Then add the Oha leaf and allow to boil for like another 5mins, while checking if the salt is enough. Soup is ready.

The black people swept, pursued, dumped, migrated from wherever and finally ended up in this area of the Niger , have one thing in common, they are under the miry clay level. Am sure one morafvcker wrote how to cook with #1,500 during buhari's demented reign, another full has come with 1k, in the next 4 months, another will come with #500, by Tinubu's 2nd year, they will come up with "how to overcome hunger" and "how to lay down and die with endurance"

(5) Waterleaf soup

Water Leaf is a green leafy vegetable (Talinum Triangulare) grown in Nigeria. An excellent immune booster, it is one of those green vegetables that grow all year round but flourishes more in the raining season. Gbure is what the Yoruba people call it, while the Edo people call it Ebedondon.

It also takes its place among the cheapest soups you could make in the country:

Waterleaf – N400
Palm Oil – N200
Ponmo – N300

No need to buy water leaf naa,, e dey every where for your yard. Goan check..

Remember to thank me later grin

Hunger and hardship sef don get influencers😂😂.

Nigeria my kwantri. Kai

Dear Op, we have a cheaper one called Oha soup.

Oha leaf N100
Thickener N50
Uziza N50
Dried Fish N500
Red Oil N200
Pepper N50
Maggi N50.

This is more balanced

I miss my times with madam. She sabi Oha and draw soup like mad.

The first time I ate there she asked if I wanted Oha and draw or bitter-leaf and draw soup. I chose the former.

I want to ask you:

Do Igbos make draw soup that is not made from okra? I ask because I don't see the okra seeds and the greens in the soup, just some slimy fluid that goes with the leaf.
