I stand with Steve, Bill is far from creative. Taking him ages and windows is still nowhere near Mac.
then go stand by him in hell. He'll need some water after all.

1. Wow. Steve Jobs sounded like a real jackass there. I'm stunned at how two-faced he was because there is a picture of Gates and Jobs smiling at each other and talking together at a conference.  This is pure jealousy and it was really low of him to try and portray the philanthropy as a mere consequence of (allegedly) having no ability to innovate or make any contributions to technology after getting his money. Can any mature person honestly say that if they had Bill Gates' amount of money, they wouldn't engage in serious philanthropy of some sort?

2. Steve Jobs had over 300 patents and of course, was the brains behind the original Mac, so it's no surprise that he would consider himself a great inventor compared to Gates.

But Bill Gates has 54 patents (with other co-inventors), so I'm not sure that it's completely accurate to claim that he "never invented anything." Maybe Jobs would have just claimed that he and the other people awarded those patents just ripped people off for those though. . .

Here's a list of Gates' patents:

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/result.html?p=1&edit_alert=&srch=xprtsrch&query_txt=IN%2F%22gates+william+h%22%0D%0AIC%2F%22redmond%22&uspat=on&usapp=on&date_range=all&stemming=on&sort=relevance&search=Search

And it seems that Bill Gates was filing patent applications even as late as 2009 on a variety of different things:

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/80beats/2009/07/16/bill-gates-patents-a-device-aimed-at-halting-hurricanes/

http://www.informationweek.com/news/global-cio/legal/218500495

http://www.geekwire.com/2011/microsoft-bill-gates-patent-virtual-entertainment-belt

http://articles.businessinsider.com/2009-04-09/tech/30058880_1_organ-donation-patent-application-electric-cars

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/bill-gates-car-engine,7517.html

So if I understand this correctly, Bill Gates is co-patenting devices to weaken the effect of hurricanes, virtual entertainment gadgets, and electromagnetic engines as late as 2009, but Gates is uncreative, unimaginative, and unable to contribute to modern technology any more?

Anyway, kudos to Gates for telling the truth.

Jobs was really two-faced:

Walter Mossberg and Kara Swisher interview Steve Jobs and Bill Gates at 'D5: All Things Digital' conference in Carlsbad, California, in 2007. Quotes made during the time of the photograph.

Kara: "What you think each has contributed to the computer and technology industry, starting with you, Steve, for Bill, and vice versa."

Steve: "Bill built the first software company in the industry and I think he built the first software company before anybody really in our industry knew what a software company was, except for these guys. And that was huge. That was really huge. And the business model that they ended up pursuing turned out to be the one that worked really well, you know, for the industry. I think the biggest thing was, Bill was really focused on software before almost anybody else had a clue that it was really the software."

Walt: "Bill, how about the contribution of Steve and Apple?"

Bill: "Well, first, I want to clarify: I’m not Fake Steve Jobs. [Peals of laughter.]
What Steve’s done is quite phenomenal, and if you look back to 1977, that Apple II computer, the idea that it would be a mass-market machine, you know, the bet that was made there by Apple uniquely—there were other people with products, but the idea that this could be an incredible empowering phenomenon, Apple pursued that dream. Then one of the most fun things we did was the Macintosh and that was so risky. People may not remember that Apple really bet the company. Lisa hadn’t done that well, and some people were saying that general approach wasn’t good, but the team that Steve built even within the company to pursue that, even some days it felt a little ahead of its time—I don’t know if you remember that Twiggy disk drive and…"

If it's true, why did he wait till Jobs died to make this claim? All these years, and then now? What kept him from saying it while Jobs was alive? undecided

Look at the part that I put in bold from the joint interview above, and note the use of "we" there. Bill Gates took his share of the credit in a less direct and less confrontational way back in 2007. Now he's just saying it more explicitly because Jobs went out of his way  to insult him.

PeeDaVinci:

honestly, the world is better off without steve jobs. i just dont like the man for the following reasons
- he never gave to charity, even, when he knew he was goin to die, and had barely the time enough to just give a little out to make the world better
- he is a cheat, you can ask steve wozniak and the board members of apple that forced him out
- he is not the kind of boss anyone will like to have, ask apple's employee that have once met with him
- he is selfish, self-centered, egocentric person who believes he is the one always right and every other person is wrong, and every competition is a cheat
- his products are unnecessarily and unduly  over-priced
- even at death, he still shows deep hatred for competition - microsoft (Bill is unimaginative ) and google's android(I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40bn in the bank, to right this wrong)
if you ask me, i'd say steve saying bill is unimaginative is a case of a kettle calling pot black, both of them are the same, steve is just better in packaging other pples inventions

Well said, screw JOBS wherever he is,Gates may not be a saint but at least he is not a loud mouth like this egotistic POS who is 6 feet under.Who uses apple products anyways?? Answer : Fanboys and Jobs worshippers. The IPOD ,IPHONE and IPAD over rated anyways.Android ,ubuntu and windows for life.
Re: I Helped Steve Jobs Create The Mac — Bill Gates by damola1: 7:32pm On Nov 13, 2011
Bill is basically unimaginative and has never invented anything which is why I think he’s more comfortable now in philanthropy than technology. He just shamelessly ripped off other people’s ideas

There are evidences that Bill Gates contributed to the Mac than the other way round. Just look at Microsoft software in Mac products alone. I think Steve agreed to some evidences that Bill really has something to contribute in the whole process.

Steve Jobs went too far on that one, Steve Wozniak is in a better position to talk not Jobs, He is not as techy as people think, he is just a great marketer, There would be no Steve Jobs without Steve Wozniak, but in all, they are all great men,

Bill Gates had more impact in computing than Steve. The impact of Bill Gates is also more noticeable in Nigeria. How many of us would be computer literate today if not for the PC? By making Windows open to any hardware vendor, Microsoft and Bill Gates opened up computing to all and for that Bill Gates will remain a computing icon no matter what Steve Jobs thinks or says.

as Apple struggled for years, only becoming dominant in the last decade.

Fact. for those of you claiming Bill is unimaginative and not creative. why are you still using windows? is just now that Apple products are becoming more popular. Bill is right after all.

We got to work together. We spurred each other on, even as competitors. None of that bothers me at all

That's a real business man talking. Microsoft is a software company. Bill competes and collaborate That's how it should be.

What impact are you talking about? Maybe in the western world where people get cheap credit to finance the purchase of his overpriced products. But in the Nigeria and the rest of the world Apple and Jobs are insignificant and have had little impact on technology.

How many people are using Apple products in Nigeria and the rest of the world? Apple produce premium products for the rich and people with easy access to credit. To have an impact in technology in my books, you need to equip people with technologies that empowers them to live more fruitful lives irrespective of their economic situation. Apple has failed to do that and hence cannot be said to have a significant global impact on technology as compared to companies like Google, Nokia, Acer, HP, Microsoft, etc.

Take Android for example, a couple of weeks ago we heard of how an Indian company with the help of the Indian government will offer a $35 computer running Android that will be available to tens of millions of Indians. Even if Google achieves nothing else as a tech company, offering a technology that enables computers to sell in double digits of a dollar makes Google even a more valuable global tech company than Apple will ever be.

With such a cheap computer millions and possibly billions will be equipped with computing technology that enables them empower themselves.

Or should I talk about Nokia, another global tech company that is empowering people with technology at affordable prices. How many Nigerians will be using Facebook today if not for affordable internet enabled mobile phones built by companies like Nokia?

You do not need to be rich to have access to technology. So, yes Apple has had a lot of impact in technology in the Western world, but in the rest of the world Apple is an insignificant company. To those people Apple is better known as fruit than a tech company.

There are excerpts of his autobiography circulating on the Internet for free. What I am trying to say is that I don't buy braggart idea. Humbleness is always the watchword for a pioneer and the legacy speaks for him. Bill Gates is no doubt the bigger guy and probably the most brilliant among the two of them.

FYI, steve jobs is hell -bent on destroying android going by his words "I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40bn in the bank, to right this wrong", and i am sure, apple will be following the same policy even after jobs' death

Impact on the industry, raising the bar higher, users now expected more from competitors. In the book: Steve jobs, it's clearly states and I quote ' This is a book about the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing and digital publishing, you might even add a seventh, retail stores, '

Listen, you can pick each of those field, and ask yourself the pre-era , what exactly was going on, I don't have to start telling you what mp3 players looked like, or even smart phones, but you simply cannot deny that he affected all users of technology.

Android is a Tsunami, Steve Jobs and Apple even if they join forces with Microsoft cannot stop it. All they can do is to find a way of leveraging its success like Google and Microsoft are doing today. With every passing day, Android is growing in prominence.
