The much-anticipated heavyweight boxing showdown is between YouTuber Jake Paul and former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson. It's set to happen on July 20, 2024, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be streamed globally on Netflix.

Last week, the boxing community was surprised by the sudden announcement of the July 20th match between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and social media superstar Jake Paul. Although the venue and broadcaster were confirmed in the initial press release, the rules for the fight were still unknown. However, renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani has since provided some insight into the matter.

Tyson, aged 57, last entered the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition match against fellow boxing icon Roy Jones Junior. During that event, Paul had only his second professional boxing match, defeating former NBA player Nate Robinson swiftly. Since then, the 27-year-old has exclusively participated in officially sanctioned professional fights, further boosting his popularity as a YouTube sensation.

With a three-decade age gap between them on fight night, there's been much debate about the safety of 'Iron Mike' competing. Eddie Hearn, Conor McGregor, Dana White, and Frank Warren are among those expressing concern for the youngest heavyweight champion in the sport's history.


Considering these concerns, there was speculation that the Tyson vs. Paul fight might follow exhibition rules, with both fighters wearing protective headgear. Former world title challenger Derek Chisora went as far as stating that he knew "for a fact that they [Tyson and Paul] are using 18-ounce gloves and headgear" for their match at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, exclusively streamed on Netflix.

However, according to a recent update from Helwani, this speculation will not hold true. Speaking on The MMA Hour, the veteran reporter clarified that both fighters are advocating for a professional bout and that headgear will not be used.


Iron Mike's' most recent contest [with Jones Junior] took place over eight two-minute rounds - with the pair wearing 12-ounce gloves, but no headgear. It appears that a similar arrangement is being sought for his clash with Paul.

Despite concerns voiced by many, Tyson has already started preparing for the July match. In a brief clip posted on his social media, he appears formidable as he trains, pounding away on the heavy bag. While he may be seen as the underdog in the bout, the 58-fight veteran exudes confidence as he aims to recapture his former glory this summer.
