Good day wonderful Romancelanders.

I created this thread to try and connect deaf or hearing impaired Nairalanders on a WhatsApp group specially created for our kinds.

Those who communicate by lip reading, like me, and those who communicate by sign language are all welcome to join.

The purpose of the group would be to familiarize, socialize and connect with each other, share ideas, challenges and encourage each other.

And if God wills, we may organize a get-together where we meet and socialize physically.

If you are a normal hearing individual but knows a deaf or hearing impaired individual, please inform him or her of the group and encourage them to join.

My Whatsapp number is 07034691446 for those interested in been added.

CC: dominique, Rocktation, farano, Mynd44. Please help push to the front page so deaf Nairalanders can have access to it 🙏🏻

Lip reading, what if the person isn't saying anything but instead he's giving sign, how do you decode that?

Dear Nlfpmod, Honorable Seun, and Amiable Mynd44, I implore you guys to please move this important yet hardly discussion topic to frontpage.
I have noticed that when "People Living With Disability" are mentioned, The Blind, The Crippled even Down-syndromes all get the necessary attention. Alas! nothing is said about the Deaf Community!
Even among the disable in Nigeria - maybe due to lack of any visible disadvantages - there is discrimination against the Deaf!
The Government have failed these people, Family/Community have failed some. I don't want Nairaland to fail them too.
Here is a popular thread that made it to Frontpage sometimes ago. Unfortunately, the guy is yet to get the necessary attention!

Thank you @sporaD8 for always checking up on me. i am still following your advice and hoping for the best.

It will be a miracle if this is on front page though, there is so much discrimination in the deaf world that can make some question if we are all human, even people with other disabilities look down on us in a gathering. The government has also failed us greatly so there is no need to complain about individuals. Worst still, the deaf lack cooperation. I just tire for everything but what i no is that, one day one day, everything will end

Attend sign language class, you will understand or decode their signs.

Back then I was learning this thing. It's a very lucrative field.

I have forgotten all my sign language gestures. Chaiiiiii.

I am sorry. The group is strictly for the deaf and hearing impaired. Admitting normal hearing individuals will defeat the purpose for which it was created.

How do dead and dumb people learn English and can type/chat in correct english or that's almost error free?

My bro is deaf and dumb but it's a struggle to understand his written English messages or statements.

I just use to decide it based on the the main keywords he uses
