Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Nobody: 7:03pm On Nov 15, 2011
Nigeria needs the right to bear Arms. Though this would create all sorts of other problems, It is the only way to balance things in Naija in it's current state of security.

The right to bear arms was instituted right from old US and any civilized society. It is what kept people from being "too bold" with bullying other people.
I mean, What can civilians do when boko haram attacks other than run and die? But if boko shows up and the whole village starts to snipe these fools, they'll think twice about this their boldness.

The right to bear arms keeps bandits away. Having understood my people very well, I know it to be true that Nigerians are cowards by heart (gripe about this all you want). They would only engage in something they find easy. E.g, if armed robbers knew that every man on this street has a GUN in his house (essentially making them concrete bunkers), they will think twice about going to the mens' house, robbing it, Desecrating his wife and daughters and probably shooting him. This is the crap that goes on in naija on a near-nightly basis.
Policemen would not be so bold as to kill an innocent civilian because he didn't give him 50 naira. All this can be solved with the right to bear arms.
The civilians need a means to defend themselves, as the police who are supposed to be doing this are just as bad as the robbers, making the situation DOUBLE worse for civilians!

I am not in Nigeria as Lord knows I would have began lobbying something like this. My fellow Nigerians need to get off their arses. Change of this nature can only be instituted when CORPORATELY done (i.e. when the masses combine).

What say ye?

I am not sure about this anymore. Nigerians are now so desensitized to violence that I don't it is a good idea to arm more of these zombies. grin
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Nobody: 7:17pm On Nov 15, 2011
I understand that. Enough damage has been done already to the people's psyche. People will start walking in to work and killing their bosses. I understand this.

But there MUST be some way for civilians to defend themselves from bandits and policemen(brigands).
All this news of hundreds dying here, hundreds dying there and everyone still so relaxed crossing their legs and discussing lackadaisically about it.
These are families for Gods sake.

Nigerian law permits gun ownership already, 2Buff.  With that license any civilian resident of Nigeria with no criminal record may LEGALLY own and use a double-barrelled shotgun or bolt-action rifle, though neither of those two categories of firearm are ideal for self-defence.  Indeed, the small-print of Nigerian firearm licence booklets includes the stern admonition that the licenced weapon is authorized for use ONLY as a "hunting and gaming" instrument.  Finally, by Nigerian law, ONLY serving or retired SENIOR military and law enforcement officers are permitted to legally posses handguns, and anyone else apprehended with one will either cough up serious bribe money or do time in the pokey.

To serve up rapid and profuse follow-up shots that are paramount in self-defence scenarios, ONLY a pump-action shotgun will do, but to qualify for legal
ownership of a pump, one would need to join a neighborhood vigilante group, which ought to be workable for anyone willing to spare the loose change that will buy exemption from vigilante patrol duty.  With that paperwork hurdle scaled, do NOT be tempted to acquire a semi-auto shotgun, because they jam frequently and that takes precious seconds to clear.   Furthermore, a seasoned hand operating a pump-action shotgun can blast away as rapidly as any autoloader, while un-jamming way faster, if needed.

Say No to semi-auto, aim true, shoot safe and NEVER waste your ammo on warning shots.

The problem that will eventually erupt out of this will be too much. Imagine a country that cant enforce the law allowing its citizens carry weapons, thats a big recipe for disaster.

This is long overdue. Legal or not, I am going to get some fire power very soon. At the rate Nigeria is going, we are about to have an all man for himself state.

What positive difference will it make? Guns are already firmly placed in the wrong hands.

To start with when the americans were giving their people the right to bear arms, the US was like 95%white.Today many americans are questioning that right especially those who live near the hispanic and black neighbourhoods.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by sulad82i(m): 6:28pm On Nov 16, 2011
We all read the news on how someone got killed in the U.S by another person for "just because" reasons. 9ja will be worst.

Lastnight @ isara ,remo , hired assasin killed the chairman of faddam, the farmers co.op. Unit for some Stupid reason. A guy that came back frm the u.s to shape his society thru farming.

Unfortunately, guns are already out there in peoples hands illegally, (na 9ja we dey oh, no dulling!)
As much as self defense and protection is essential in a society that is failing to protect its citizenry, i cant help but think of the heavy price to pay when all does zombies get a hand on one (like a previous comment above rightly described some of our fellow Nigerians).
Its hard for me to take a position on this subject, cos i personally want a gun to protect myself from this clowns, but what happens if the next guy on the street is a lunatic and he too is in possession of a gun (i'm Zap.e.d!)
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by oderemo(m): 7:42pm On Nov 16, 2011
Guns are everywhere now, no dulling. Even private guards with heavy weapons now patrol your reedeem church and other places of worship, @ shagamu in ogun state vigillantes with guns patrol openly during the day and night, same within all that remo axis, reason cos the community have to step up and protect their ppl as the nigeria security system have totally collapsed.
Dont kid yourself guys, protect yourself and family.
Report any crime @ the station and u pay them toeven write you a report talkless of investigate .
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Koolking(m): 7:42pm On Nov 16, 2011
If a nod was given to this, the country would have changed by force. The president would not be taking us for a ride. revolution would have pushed him aside if not given him the gift of a grave.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by manny4life(m): 7:55pm On Nov 16, 2011
I' m a strong proponent for the right to bear arms, so I solidly stand behind this. When people carry guns with them, when you realize that the next person to you as well as others around you have one, you won't use yours not if you want to loose your life. This will curb insanity of the corrupt police officers that don't hesitate to shoot people down because of N20. angry angry angry
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Nobody: 8:03pm On Nov 16, 2011
^^ You get my point.

The stakes are significantly HIGHER when u know that your foolishness would make u stand before your maker that self-same hour, so people would be more careful.

As I have said before, nigerians are generally cowards. No naija person wants to die unneccessarily, but they will kill another if it is easy and there is no retaliation expected (see police). This will undoubtedly balance the society out.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by oderemo(m): 8:04pm On Nov 16, 2011
One or two innocent lives will be lost but come to think of it thats exactly what is happ.now.
Be that as it may, y dont we all carry arms and sleep easy instead goint to bed with one eye shut.
Luk @ the issue of boko haram, guys obtain u @ will with guns, cart away your hard earn laptops, mobile phone and oda gadgets.
Mehn this s.hit gotta stop.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Nobody: 8:08pm On Nov 16, 2011
to all i know a small number of folks have guns already, but the key thing is to make it more legal and possibly more regulated.

You shouldn't be treated like a criminal because you carry a gun that's licensed to u.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by Nobody: 8:11pm On Nov 16, 2011
I think of the old western towns in the US.  cheesy
Any band of brigands think twice before rolling to town to shoot up folk, cuz they know at least 80% of their crew go die that day.  grin
This deters criminals. trust me.

Must of them are only in it because of the ease. If it becomes harder, they'll think twice. And boko Haram boys go think "hmmm, see as we just dey die anyhow. Maybe this isn't the will of Allah for us".  grin
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by chivo: 9:07pm On Nov 16, 2011
I don't think it proper to allow such law to be applicable in naija where people kill each other just merely because of girl friend and boy friend squabbles, In my humble opinion, i think most Nigerians lack s the level of maturity neended for it to be permited.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by otokx(m): 9:21pm On Nov 16, 2011
kinda like the tot of having my own AK47 at home but if and when you stay with other people its a different ball game, don't want your children taking the gun to school or using it on some other child in the vicinity so for now NO
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by ronkebp(f): 9:25pm On Nov 16, 2011
Who says we need to bear arms? the government should better concentrate on things that matter, instead of trying to wipe a whole nation out.
Re: Nigerians Need The Right To Bear Arms? by dadicvila(m): 9:35pm On Nov 16, 2011
Who like death??even the jihadist will want to kill without being killed if they cud have dia way,as some1 pointed out earlier, many people who use guns to intimidate and harass people do it because of the relative ease involved, because they are quite sure people they intimidate are unarmed, though blood will flow but people will not just wake up at night and invade a big estate, hold them hostage till dawn,it will hardly happen, honestly if a man is armed and determined, except a group of well trained soldiers i dont think anybody can just invade his territory, men will learn to protect themselves, dia wives, sisters and mothers, believe me it wunt be easy for any invader O!!theives and armed robbers will look for other not so bloody occupations,so yes i am in support of it
