Hello Everyone and Happy Easter Celebration, I want to ask some few questions concerning the issues with my landlord and hopefully I can get a useful responses.

I moved in to this apartment on 1st of march 2020 which is located in Lagos, Ajah precisely. I have lived here for years.

So, on sept 2023 I was giving a “quit notice letter which stated I will be moving out once my rent expires on (1st of march)

Then my question now is, Is it appropriate to issues a quick notice letter when your house rent hasn’t expired yet, or I’m getting another few months so I can be able to find another place to rent.

U want to live rent free for 6 months abi?? Ur landlord knows the law......some issue quit notice at the wrong time and end up giving tenant free 6months or even 1 year rent free..

Quit notice law is 6months notice from the day it was issued, provided u are paying per annum..... U have been given 6months notice..

Still....if u have vawulence for your head..u can stay another extra few months, even ,1 year, claiming u have not found another accommodation.....wateva u see u collect shaaa if ur landlord get vawulence pass you

Lagos tenancy law protects the tenant. In as much as you are not owing, the only thing is the landlord will charge you to court...You can give them excuse that you are still looking for a favorable apartment which you haven't found.
I know from the judgement day, the court will give you another 6 months to look elsewhere for accommodation.

Just be calm, they can't throw you out.

If na caretaker or lawyer give you notice, their last resort is the court which will favor you eventually.

But if na the landlord give you quit notice, e fit use different methods like harrassement, some even go diabolical.Just be careful.

I own no rent to the landlord. I only intend to stay for one more month so I can be able to raise funds for a New place.

Your rent must not expire before notice to quit.
The landlord did the lawful thing by informing you and giving you 6 months notice to quit.
This is the most reasonable move. It prevents the tenants from living rent free. Any landlord that issues notice to quit after expiration of rent is naive.

You had enough time since September last year.

You don't need to be owning rent to be giving a quit notice, and he gave you six month from the time, so the best you can do is find another place. He has acted according to the law and he might want to sell the place off.
