FIRS deletes message, apologises

We Will Never Denigrate Jesus Christ—-FIRS

Our attention has been drawn to a statement by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) about a flier posted on our social media platforms with the headline “Jesus paid your debts, not your taxes.” As a responsible agency of government, we would like to say we did not put out the flier purposively to denigrate Jesus Christ or detract from the huge sacrifice He made for humanity. We are acutely aware that the essence of the Easter period is to celebrate this huge sacrifice.

The message was our way of uniquely engaging taxpayers and to remind them of the need to prioritise payment of their taxes as a civic obligation. Yes, we would say the message ruffled feathers in some circles. The unintended meaning/insinuation being read into the post was not what we were out to communicate as an agency. Good a thing, this much is acknowledged by CAN in its statement wherein it said “We recognise that the intended message may have been to creatively engage taxpayers…” We wish to offer our unreserved apologies for this misinterpretation.

FIRS, as a responsible agency, has no religion and will not bring down any religion or offend the sensibilities of adherents of various faiths in the country. Our goal is to assess, collect and account for revenue for the wellbeing of the Federation. We believe it is an investment in the progress of the country when citizens pay their taxes. Once again, we wish to apologise to CAN and Christians who felt offended at the unintended consequence of our message on Easter Sunday.

Signed

Dare ADEKANMBI

Special Adviser (Media) to the FIRS chairman

FIRS have constantly been making blasphemous statements against the Christian faith. If it were to be the other religion, am sure by now most of their offices will be burnt.

Tinubu should call these idiots to order before they start an unnecessary civil unrest in this country at a time like this.

The FIRS staff that sent such message is a slowpoke. This is a big blasphemy and FIRS must pay heavy fine because message like this can cause civil unrest.

Surat al-Imran (The Family of Imran) 3, verse 55 says, (And remember) when Allah said: O Jesus! Lo! I am gathering thee and causing thee to ascend unto Me, and am cleansing thee of those who disbelieve and am setting those who follow thee above those who disbelieve.

You dolts can try to denigrate the Christ, but read and understand and realise what your God says about Him so that your ignorance can be wiped away. You're of all humanity the most pitiful

I really can't understand why FIRS has now constituted itself as a Rascal Agency that always make insidious posts that hurt people's sensibilities, then they will apologize and delete. Then the next day, they will look for any insensitive post to throw at yet another person or group of person.
Someone should tell them that churning out insensitive posts are not ways to shore up revenues. They should be more proactive in their strategies.

I remember the Sterling bank insidious Easter advert that generated controversy.
I also remember Peak Milk insensitive advert also.
All always happen during Easter, as if it is deliberate.
CAN should give stern warning that going forward it will take legal actions against any organization that make insensitive posts against Christianity.
