Good evening house..
all the experts in the house.. Please I need your assistance.. I drive a 2003 Toyota corolla.. I took it to an auto expert to help fix thermostat... And he could not get thermostat at that time but he redid the wiring.. After that. The car has been running without thermostat but fan doesn't come on at start or run continuously.. Fan only run when AC is on or when car reaches normal operating temp of about 200 to 210 then fan picks..car has not over heated so far for over a week... Please is this safe to continue driving?? However.. I noticed this evening that the driver leg side was a little hot after 1hrs plus of driving.. Kindly assist or advice. Should I continue driving or connect back fans or still keep looking for thermostat..i need clarifications please..
Note.. Car was not overheating prior to now..
Gazzuzz.. Kingreign.. Autologic.... And other experts please jump in..

I am guessing your thermostat is still working as it should.

.it suprises me..
Fan turns on only when engine has reached op temp...
Most likely.. The temp is still there and working...

the thermostat is still working if not, the fan won't pick. The fan pick based on instructions from the thermostat sensor meaning the thermostat and the sensor are perfectly working

Good morning all, i want to quickly ask if what my mechanic is anything to go by.
He suggested i changed my radiator from the single cell it came with to double cell that it will prolong the lives pan of my Ac compressor. I just replaced the compressor less than two weeks ago.
How true is this pls?

1. You don't have a thermostat in the engine
2. Fans are running via brainbox

You don't have a thermostat installed so your engine will take a longer time to get to operating temperature (if at all it gets there) . The cooling fans are 2, one for the usual cooling of the coolant in the radiator and the other to assist in cooling the condenser when using the ac.

So to be frank, Your radiator cooling fan is not coming on because your thermostat is not installed and your using ac is what forces them both to come on. THIS IS VERY BAD FOR YOUR ENGINE IN THE LONG RUN and you will be looking at replacing it in a relatively short time due to smoking and cylinder compression loss due to excessive sludge (i give you a maximum of 3 yrs to start seeing the smoke for aluminium engines) iron engines don't usually get affected by this issue as badly as aluminium engines do.

Solution? Go to a spare parts market, where your vehicle tokumbo engines are sold and pay for the dealer to remove a thermostat from a similar engine for sale and sell to you.

On the reason he gave to switch to a double cell radiator i say He's a rubbish mechanic Find another one or manage this one but be very knowledgeable of your vehicle while doing so

I think his reason is because of our hot climate.
I am not experiencing any issue of overheating with the vehicle.
The temperature is always very ok!

Don't mind him. Keep using it exactly like that unless you just have extra money to burn for nothing.

If it were me. Id use it till it develops a leak or blockage (or something else) before contemplating this stuff.

It mist be one very big fan. You're even lucky, your own cooling fan connection is the simple type.

Use it like that and go on your way. Don't tamper with it.

WHEN YOU START YOUR COLD CAR , IT RUNS ON OPEN LOOP OPERATION ( when the fan isn't blowing ) , WHICH MEANS THE BRAIN BOX OR ECU IS NOT MEASURING YOUR FUEL AND AIR FOR PROPER COMBUSTION , THE INJECTOR IS RUNNING MANUALLY ( more fuel ) UNTIL THE ENGINE REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE ABOUT 90 DEGREE CELSIUS ( when the fan blow's ) , THE JOB OF A THERMOSTAT IS TO RESTRICT THE COLD COOLANT FROM FLOWING INTO THE ENGINE TO HELP THE ENGINE REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE QUICKLY

IF YOU ARE NOT RUNNING YOUR CAR LONGER TO REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE OFTEN ( when the fan blow's ) ,πŸ‘ŽTHEN YOU ARE RUNNING ON CLOSE LOOP OPERATION, WHICH MEANS MORE FUEL AND CARBON IN YOUR CELINDERS , WHICH MAY EFFECT THE RINGS ON THE LONG RUN

WHEN THE CAR REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE (close loops operation or when the fan blow's ) THE BRAIN BOX OR ECU START TELLING THE INJECTOR AND AIR SENSORS TO CALCULATE MINIMAL FUEL AND AIR RATIO FOR RECOMMENDED COMBUSTION, WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW CARBON BUILD UP IN THE CELINDERS

It ok for a regular long trip run, but bad for people that run short trip all the time , because of fuel economy and carbon build up in the CELINDERS

REMEMBER TIME NA MONEY , HAPPY RIDING ❀️

THE THERMOSTAT DOES NOT CONTROL THE FAN AND THE FAN CAN BLOW WITHOUT A THERMOSTAT WHEN THE ENGINE REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE

THE FAN IS CONTROLLED BY THE BRAIN BOX OR ECU THROUGH A FAN THERMOSWICH AFTER THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR REPORTS TO THE BRAIN BOX OR ECU THAT THE ENGINE HAS REACH IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE

THE THERMOSTAT ONLY RESTRICT COLD COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR FROM FLOWING INTO THE ENGINE COOLANT SECTION, BY
CONTRACTION AND EXPANSION OF THE THERMOSTAT SPRING WHICH IS CONTROLLED BY THE TEMPERATURE OF THE COOLANT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK , AND DON'T HAVE ANY WIRE ON IT πŸ™‚

Make sure you check it , don't imagine it , is the most important component in that ensure engine longitivity and fuel economy

HIS ADVICE IS TOTALLY UNRECOMMENDED, BECAUSE HE DOES NOT KNOW YOUR CAR WAS PRODUCED TO WITHSTAND EVERY TEMPERATURE ,

THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF A CAR IS 87 TO 90 DEGREE CELSIUS , BUT OUR CONTRY HAS ABOUT 45 DEG CELSIUS MAXπŸ™‚

USE THE RECOMMENDED COOLANT TYPE OF YOUR CAR AND CHANGE AT RECOMMENDED INTERVALS

your one fan is bigger and blow's adequately installed by the manufacturer, than the two double smaller fans
