Band A only promises 20 hours per day, yet since the price increase, many people are now trying to ensure they are not in band A despite crying for 24hrs power like in 'saner climates' all these years.

One thing I have noticed about us Nigerians is that we brag a lot particularly when a service or product is not yet available. If you were to do a market survey before introducing a product or service into the market, a lot of folks will tell you that the product you want to introduce is what they have been waiting for in years, then when you follow their mouth and invest in it, then you will start hearing stories. A lot of businesses have suffered that fate in Nigeria.

So, how does this compare to the hike in electricity? It is because, before now, many folks used to say we pay for darkness but they are ready to pay any amount as long as they have constant power. The keyword here is that they are ready to pay any amount. Since the increase in price for those in Band A, we have been inundated with cries even by those who by the different band definitions do not even qualify for any band not to talk of being in Band A.

Some folks who have some level of constant power are even saying they should remove them from band A, which implies that they do not want power of up to 20 hours again. I find this very funny.

The same thing with fuel subsidy removal. Before the removal, almost all the analysts and call in on TV and Radio programs made successive governments look stupid for paying subsidy payments in trillions and advocated for the removal of subsidy. When all the major candidates all said they would remove the subsidy, each supporter hailed their candidate for it. Yet as soon as the subsidy was removed, the same folks who used to brag that they had the money and were ready to pay whatever amount suddenly turned activists against the removal.

Nigerians like to brag themselves into trouble and then start crying later.

The reason is simple. The 20 hours daily supply promised on band A isn’t happening. They get less number of hours daily but are expected to pay the tariff for 20 hours daily supply. Wouldn’t you ‘run’ if you were on such a scam band called band A?

The problem is being asked to pay more when the number of hours of power supplied is the same as band B or band C in some cases.

Don’t mind them. The next thing they will tell us is that it is baby steps & that within few days (obviously weeks) they will perfect the 20 hours of power supply for band A. So band A users will be paying them to take baby steps with no guarantee of when they will master their steps.

The op is an idi0t. This are the low IQ people we have in this country dragging everyone down. 20hours a day is almost 24 hours. They said minimum of 20hours.

Alot of countries in asia and Europe are not even getting up to 18-20hours a day and even less or higher especially in some part. We all know 20 hours is not possible in many states.

Some people and companies running big generator Can afford and like to pay that if truly they would see the 20 hours. But alot more can’t pay that and for them its to change location. The major problem 20hours minimum power is not possible in the next decades pf this country

The title and content of your post is rubbish.

People that are not getting 12 hours of electricity are illegally being grouped under band A. And you are posting nonsense.

They are ready to pay any amount? So Nigerians should pay more than americans because they are ready to pay any amount? They should have increased it to 1,000 naira per kwh.

If the discos follow the spirit of the definition of the various bands, then technically you will no longer be in band A. It is not something that is supposed to be fixed, it should depend on the customer getting their classification of power depending on the hours of the day.

Did you see the other thread where three countries including Nigeria were listed with their electricity tariff alongside their minimum wages? The new tariff is a form of extortion by FG on the behalf of DISCOS.
A typical household with 20 hours of electricity a day, with conservative power use is expected to use 4 units per day. That's 30k per month! How much is minimum wage again? Do you now see that the prices of goods and services in Nigeria is not in reality with people's income. This will continue to encourage corruption among Nigerians

The useless minister of power has said that they're coming for other bands too. grin grin grin
Using different tariffs for customers who are on the same Residential or Commercial classification! Billing customers who are using prepaid meters as if they were on estimated billings! Wicked people

Use your sense now, how can customers enjoy 20 hours of electricity per day when the whole nation of over 200 million people are sharing a paltry generation of 5000 megawatts of electricity? We're supposed to be talking about generating 100,000 megawatts of electricity at the moment
