How a dot com should be run. Nairaland.com as an example.


Nairaland is headquartered in Nigeria and the people working at the headquarter are around fifteen in number while the remaining workers work remotely from all over the world. They have a total of 145 employees on their payroll.
They have an annual revenue of between twelve and thirteen million dollars. Naira land makes 4.5 million dollars per annum from the USA while Quora makes 1.5 million dollars per annum from Nigeria. Going by the population of the two countries and by the fact that the US population is better educated and with a lower dependency ratio, one can conclude that the two companies are similar in size by total revenue.
Nairaland makes 1 million dollars per annum from China. According to IFA money made from other nations somehow correspond to the population size. It means India too will be spending up to one million dollars per annum on Naira land.

The point to be made is that it is unethical to.make such monies over the head of the government and without incorporating in the market. It is applicable to all companies in all sectors but it is more applicable to dot coms because majority of their workforce work remotely.

The ideal way to do things is for Nairaland to incorporate in the US with a separate management and CEO but with the headquarters in Nigeria having equity say ten percent in the new company. Let them go on as a different company charting their own path according to their taste. The revenue will be theirs and it is only when sharing dividends that they will need to remember headquarters.
