COMRADES, I had an appointment with an official at the aforementioned University, while I was outside waiting for my turn. Suddenly, there was a bang! And immediately we all took to our heels and presuming it was a bomb blast grin

After some moments of calmness, we discovered that it was a portion of the ceiling of the building that fell down! What a sight of relief! The building which we were in, was the faculty of humanities in the university ,and it doubles as the largest faculty in the institution

The building in question, is one of the buildings that was built by well spirited individuals and it was commissioned/inaugurated not long ago, but it is in this sorry state today. Based on my assumption or assessment (though I am not an architect); this building may soon collapse and when this happens many lives will be lost, the building is 'young' but it is already stressed

The crack on those walls is evident of a looming danger.

I wonder if those wonderful structures we see in OAU, UI, ABU etc can ever exists again in our public universities. You can't even see a crack or any sort of dent on a building of over 50 years. OAU's amphitheater is a very good example. Solid and reliable structures with amazing architectural designs. Even those schools I mentioned above don't build such wonderful structures again.

I think campuses and academic environments should be among the most beautiful and most developed areas in any city/state. My opinion though.

This should be reported to the necessary relevant authorities so they can take action to avert any impeding tragedy.

Nonchalant attitude and Negligence of not applying safety measures and precautions is part of our problems in this country.

All universities has areas that are deplorable/neglected and areas that are state of the arts.

I was there around 2008 and back then, they have some large classes that looked dilapidated (usually by students or vandalism).

My brother, the poor quality of public buildings irks me, everyday. You'll see a 2 year old building starting to give way. That's aside the bland architectural designs they give such buildings.
