Let me be specific. Rituals involving blood sacrifice of an animal or human, Do they really work?

I know it is a strange question to ask but what aroused my curiosity is this reply from a thread in the front page.

Some years back, I was serving in a particular state. I don't want to feed tribalist trolls so I won't name the state. An indigene of that state warned me not to go out late because the burial of a notable traditional ruler was about to take place and it is "custom" to bury that ruler with other individuals.

So back to my question. Do Rituals Really Work? If no they why do people including educated traditional rulers observe or participate in such rituals?

I made a thread one time on the need to stem fetish killings and the comments that followed were filled with vitriol. The contributors made it look like an attack on their tribe's existence. Black Africans remain ultra conservative with things that border on superstition. There's this primitive mindset of fear that's transmitted from one generation to the next. This fetish practices like the one you mentioned as an example are useless. It was like the twin killing thing and countless others which obviously were introduced by sinister demonic individuals who profited in a way from spreading wild fear and terror. I saw a stat some time ago that claimed Aro ibiniupkabi shrine accounted for almost 50% of trafficked victims from the south east area. Those Aro priests and their cohorts deceived people with the use of fear of nonexistent gibberish to achieve materialistic profit. Commonly in the past a native doctor would try to magnify the extent of a simple affliction by introducing a spiritual aspect to it all in the hopes of scheming for a higher wage. This pattern has been in use for hundreds if not thousands of years. If I made law for this country man I'd abolish all native titles that represent a vestige of institutions that at any time participated in human trafficking and ritual murder. Virtually all personalities masquerading as royal fathers would cease to exist !
