People are wicked in this country.

Greed will finish us in this country.

Go to trade fare and see how street retailers are ripping us off big time.

My wife bought her body cream CT+ at the rate 2100 at trade fare yesterday while in our area retailers are selling it for 3700.

Kk brothers soap my wife bought the pack for 7k(6pieces) while one is sold for 1700 by retailers.

Her sanitary pad she bought 1 pack at the rate of 1050 while retailers sell for 1700.

Even strike bitters sachet pack(20 pieces) wey I dey always use console myself i buy for 2000 she got it for 1450.

Note she didn't even buy at carton price but at pack price because if she was buying in carton the price would be lower that than.

Just yesterday I bought a derica of rice on my way back home for 900 around oshodi terminal while the seller in my street is still selling for 1300 despite price of bag of rice coming down.

We are own problem.......everyone is wicked in this country.

In as much as I am not putting up excuses for the retailer, I suggest you too set up a retail shop and force the price down rather down wailing here on nairaland which won't change anything. We all complain too much in this country without taking any concrete action.

Seriously, why do you people have to be so abusive?

If I called you wicked human, you won't like it.

It's called 'competition'...plus, if there is an ongoing trade fair programme, goods there are very likely to be cheaper...because they are likely direct from manufacturer.

The chaps that sell outside trade fair, they buy from wholesalers. Prices go up

Again, they are also suffering the same hardship. They have to make money to eat, to pay taxes, market dues, etc. etc. And they still have to buy new stock whose prices go up....

Unless you want price control (last time we tried it, we ended up with scarcity and queues).

U bought a derica of rice @900 while in ur area it's sold for @1,300....

I see no huge difference here?

How much was a derica of rice before Tinubu took over the presidency?

This is what we should be talking about?

Dead country...

All in all, the government is still the one to blame. Consumer pricing regulation is a thing in Western countries, the natural mind of any enterpreneur is to make the most profits, it is up to governemnt to make laws and implment them to curtail abuse such as price gourging and market manipulation/monopoly.

I repeat, making profits is the most naturally human thing an enterpreneur can do! Why would I sell you something for a 10% profit when I can easily get a 40% profit due to demand and other market forces.....I dey mad ni? grin grin grin

You have time to be replying these evil and greedy people! You only complained of vast price disparity, and they are all justifying high cost of goods. They are even happy for this high cost. Just mark their names and see how they will complain about government and inflation later. Evil and hypocrisy
why aren't Nigerians complaining of middlemen 2yrs ago? Or dont we have retailers then? Γ€bi u don't know the retailer will fill his cooking gas, buy fuel, buy diesel which are all double expensive from the meager profit he makes from the business?

Those selling in trade fare are aliens?? They are not suffering hardship??

How can you buy something for 2100 and want to sell for 3700??

We buying are plucking money from trees

No, they have to increase their prices to enable them foot their bills.
I drive a v6 engine car and I bought fuel at 695 per liter, to fuel my v6, u know how much it cost me to do so? Now, there is no electricity, I need to also fuel my home generator, fuel my business generator. Where do u think i will get the cash to fund all of these and keep my business going if I dont want to steal? I will have to increase the prices of my services and products. That is how the world works. Fuel is expensive and once that happens, everything that relies on it will tripple their prices. These sellers have people to feed and business to keep flowing.
This is not greedy anything! I am spending over over 300k monthly to fuel my v6 car, home generator and business generator. I have to get my cost back. This is the story of small and medium scale businesses now. They have to feed.

That's the point. The hardship is exacerbated by the middlemen and retailers.

Ordinarily, why shd a bag of cement that raw materials are abundant in Nigeria be sold for over 10k by retailers? It is those in power who are bereft of ideas concerning fuel subsidy and exchange rate that are encouraging these people.

I will like a different thread abt whether any Nigerian will make heaven or paradise.

Economic and financial
wickedness is in the blood of Nigerians.

The day dollar goes up, EVERY SHOP starts selling high because dollar rate is high, whether the business has anything to do with forex or not. When exchange rate improves, prices refuse to come down. We have people who are very religious but very very ungodly.

Nigerians are generally cruel opportunists.
See the way they are justifying inflating prices at the detriment of the masses.
Exactly the reason why people will prefer to patronise ShopRite and Bokku than the local retailer.

The retailer will add transport fare, shop rent, tax and levies, then profit to be made etc, I'm not justifying the amount but consider these before concluding

That is why it is always good to put down all what you need. Then visit the wholesalers market and buy in dozens or half dozens that will serve you for a month or quarterly. You must create time to do this shopping.

Retailers want to make 75-100% profit on each products they buy in dozens. Some supermarket have adopted the street retailers style now. In fact, they are expensive more than the street retailers now.

Before you blame them..think about this

1. Transportation to your area
2. Shop rent to be paid annually
3. Their own expenses

You pay premium for convenience and that is how it is everywhere. A 40 bottle of water is $3.99 at Costco...that is 10 cents...same Costco sells one cold bottle of the same water for $1...a 10 times markup ...they have to pay for electricity to keep it cold lol...the store in the neighborhood sell the same water for $1.50 or $1.75. We complain in Nigeria but when you japa, you realize Naija one na small compared to the West lol.

I agree with you, I was told a bag of foreign rice was sold for 56k against the previous price of 93k, I ran to the market yesterday to buy one only to be told the price has gone up from 56k to 63k within 24hrs I ask why? They said naira go up, mind you local rice still remains 66k. Who do us like this

When a shop owners takes cartons of that cream to your area from trade fair,
They pay transport

They pay tradefair dues

They pay those that load it

They pay policemen on the road

They pay local govt Agbero

They pay staff in their shop

They pay for deisel for generator

They pay rent and rent is expensive in that your area than trade fair

Oga the price cant be the same

Lol. No be this country we dey before Tinubu floated naira? The reason why prices went out of control. At that time, before Tinubu, were retailers this wicked? The answer is no. But were they not paying all those charges at the time? Of course, they were.
Why now they have refused to crash the prices a bit? Naira appreciated from N1800 to N1200, diesel price came down to N1000 from N1800. Petrol price doesn't really affect prices of goods that much.

You said masses? The masses are wicked. They're the ones selling rice, palm oil, garri, yam, ogu, etc as they like. That's why God usually stays away from their matter. When they curse their leaders and complain about bad leadership, God scoffs. Because he already knows that the masses are more wicked to themselves. No matter how their leaders oppress and no matter how they fast and pray and bind and cast or rebuke, it doesnt move God because He already knows that these people are worse than the leaders. Until the day that major shops an outlets will be required to documents goods in their shop before and after, this evil will continue.

Forget those who complain. Ask them how they sold their vegetable or water leaf and you'll be shocked. The masses in Nigeria are a wicked lot.

Bro if you have something giving you money in this country you'll do as you like. You won't send anybody even the the government. After all you're not seeking for employment tomorrow. Nigeria government is wicked and adamant. They don't care if you survive or not. A country where you gain nothing from the government from January to December unless you're a civil servant. Why won't you make nyanga when you become self employed?
