Otti's Forensic Audit Uncovers N107.2bn Paid to Contractors for Nonexistent Projects

In this 3 minutes Video you're about to watch, the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti disclosed findings from forensic auditors he appointed, revealing that the previous administration in Abia State paid a total of N107.2 billion to 72 contractors for projects that never materialized, including a non-existent airport. Speaking at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington DC, he emphasized the pervasive issue of corruption among Nigerian leaders, stating that some politicians misuse their positions, leading to the impoverishment of their states. Otti detailed the results of the forensic audit, which uncovered payments of N9.3 billion to seven contractors for projects that were never executed, N15.9 billion to 63 contractors without any supporting documents, and N12 billion to two contractors for non-existent contracts. He expressed frustration over the inability to locate the Abia State Airport despite significant funds allocated to its construction.

Despite the the issue being a very sensitive and a heart breaking one, the audience couldn't help but laughed uncontrollably as Otti humorously disclosed how one of his aides advised him to seek native intelligence in locating the said airport, since they have spent time trying to locate the airport and uptill now haven't found it.

He said the evidence of the lack of ingenuity of politicians is how Nigerian states struggle to pay salaries and pensions.

Earlier in April 2024, Otti lamented that the state was plunged into debt of N192bn by his predecessor, Ikpeazu. He further revealed how his predecessor also inherited N34.5bn debt from T.A. Orji.

Publish the names of the contractors in the newspaper and the amount paid to them. Let them have their day in court in order to defend themselves. If the projects were not executed, kindly retrieve the money in interest of the State.
