What's that one advise you wish someone like old you before moving abroad

Me: That you will work so hard and forget to socialise. That material things will not be a problem but it will affect your mental health

Wish I knew people abroad only package what they want people to see and struggle behind the packaging.

One thing a lot of people seem to complain about is LONELINESS.

As such, you need to learn to ENJOY being alone. Learn to entertain yourself. Embracing taking yourself out without feeling awkward.

Me and my household will never leave Nigeria to become 3rd class immigrants in the White man's land. I will advice anyone thinking about running abroad to stay put in Nigeria. Don't waste millions of naira just to go overseas to become a support worker or whatever its called. Moreover, a Worldwar is brewing in the shadows and all these foreign countries have all sworn alliance to defend each other when war breaks out, what will you do then? Run back to the same Nigeria u abandoned? It may be too late. So many people lack wisdom and it's evident in the huge number of people willing to sell all they've got just to go abroad.

If i wanna advise anyone, it will be to go abroad for a certain number of years(10 to 20) then return home to enjoy the money u worked for. When u are back home u can even frequent the abroad for tourism, holidays, medical trips, etc

It would be you against yourself.

So no Tinubu to blame, or nepa, which makes it impossible that you can't learn programming. There will be no scapegoat to just blame for your incompetence.

It will also reveal your weakness to you. In Naija where you enter Uber any small thing, you will learn to walk and use a bus, to save money. Friends would be more of people you know, not people to save you.

You will grow and be independent by fire by force, or else, you will pay through your nose just to fix your bulb. There are sharks in the form of government, friends, and work colleagues who will show you that you pepper base on your incompetence.

I wish I could like this comment more than one million times. One thing I would like to chip in though is that no where in the world is easy. The opportunities exist but no one is going to just hand them over to you just because they exist. You need to prove your competence to get them.

A lot of Nigerians romanticize the west. The west has its type of hardship. It's punishing to dependent people. Those who expect someone else to help them apply for something, or to borrow something, assist them, etc.

The development of the West is not achieved by people sitting and expecting other people to do it for them. I am impressed when I look out the window at midnight in the dead of winter at -35 degrees, men are busy with tractors clearing snow.

You can throw up hot water and it will turn to snowflakes before it touches the ground, that's how cold it is, but men are out there working. Then also think of policemen, tramway repairmen, delivery men, postmen, etc.

You expect someone to pass through that hell and just dash you his money because you guys are friends abi? You go learn grin

maybe if one understood the societal evolution, then concepts such as 50/50, going Dutch, and bringing your own food on party invitations become understandable. No one will carry your burden, except you, and if you ar young, your parents.

most people are deluded... I laugh especially at those who see these western countries as paradise... in fact, apart from the bad governance or whatsoever, Nigeria provides lot of benefits, opportunities and freedom... most people's businesses wouldn't thrive here if it was like the West, but since most people are deluded into seeing beauty pictures of the country they romanticise, they are misled into thinking that's all there is...

you'll work, work, work and most of them will go into laying your bills and rent... work your ass out while giving it all back to the system... their system works right, you have to pay for it... why it looks cool in their eyes is that, the exchange rate of the currency, so small change there looks big to them... and we don't even have to count how many shifts before you can keep up... my brother, if you have a working business and a home in Nigeria or other African counties, it will be so foolish of you to sell your property in order to go "start life" abroad... you are simply just an advanced slave to the system, someone who's dependent on the Matrix...

Exactly. American citizens, those with big cash are now moving to South America and Asia to escape "Uncle Sam." Doctors in U.K are doing same.
But as Africans, suffering has been ingrained in our blood. Slaving away is not new. I only pity those who sold their ancestral homes just to be able to move.
