Sequel to my previous post.

https://www.nairaland.com/8055795/experience-reinstalling-cars-thermostat-fuel

I have changed my engine oil to the recommended 5w-20, lubrex.

I bought 22 litres some few miles after my reserve light came on. My trip has been mostly combined traffic, those in Abuja might know the Lugbe - Airport junction route.

I was able to hit 180 miles, meanwhile.. I had idled the car with AC on for an hour, last Friday.

This translates to 31mpg for combined traffic. I'm not sure I can test for highway only anytime soon.

Since the thermostat was removed and bypassed, let's assume the recommended engine oil was not also used by the previous owner and as you have switched to the recommended engine oil, try pay attention to notice if it shorts oil. Check in a week or 2 if it doesn't reduce, continue using the recommended oil. Enjoy.

I have reinstalled the thermostat, and also the fan works with the CT sensor.

Hello OP.

Can we please get a detailed breakdown of all the steps taken to achieve this? I have a similar car, it consumes a lot of fuel. I recently changed my 02 sensor but it still doesn't reflect on the OBD II scanner.

Things I changed:
Air Filter
02 Sensor
Spark Plug

Is it possible for the 02 sensor to still be working even while the scanner doesn't show?

PS: I only changed the upstream 02 sensor (But sensors weren't working when I scanned).

Whatsup Bro? I'll try to be as detailed as possible.

Is your car the 2.0L variant?? I hope it's not the 2.4L

So, the first thing I did was replace the O2 sensor, but even without the O2 sensor but with my thermostat intact I got 155miles. The previous owner didn't even know it was bad.
Then I installed a new intake manifold filter.
After that I installed my thermostat back and made sure the fan were not working with the ignition, this made a huge difference. I also changed the engine oil to the factory recommended.

Your upstream O2 sensor is the most important, make sure you get a good one. Someone told me on this forum that it would be difficult to get one, but I got one on my first try.

If your fan is a working directly, then I'm afraid you won't be able to achieve that.

If I didn't idle with AC on for 1hr+ maybe I would have gotten to 200 or 190miles+ with that 22 litres.

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

My daily route is always combined traffic, but more of city driving. My previous car would give me 70 miles at its best with same litres of fuel.

Sadly, mine is the 2.4L variant. I found out my thermostat was taken out and the fan was connected directly to work with the ignition. I think I should fix that first. Was the intake manifold filter bad or missing?
Can you please direct me or link me to where you purchased the 02 sensor, the one I got doesn't work.

Thank you boss

Check the average mpg on your car online first. Then make sure that your cooling system is working as should. Before fixing, make sure there are no hidden over heating issues ooooo, make sure you fix those first.

I got my sensor at Apo in Abuja here. Didn't you test it before paying?

Are your exhaust catalysts still on the car?

I am not sure. Doesn't look like it has been removed though.

Pretty sure, Your catalyst has nothing to do with your fuel consumption.

No. I didn't test the sensor, it was sent from Lagos to Kaduna. I just assumed since it was new, it would work.

Thank you so much for you help Sir. I really appreciate. I will make all necessary checks before installing the thermostat.

Can I please get the number of your plug for the 02 sensor @ Apo?
