Tanzania Shuts Down 5 Hydroelectric Stations To Reduce Excess Electricity by Kingsmeal: 10:24pm On Apr 24
Tanzania has shut down five hydroelectric stations to reduce excess electricity in the national grid, the prime minister Kassim Majaliwa has said.

According to Majaliwa, the main plant, Mwalimu Nyerere Hydroelectric Station, has alone generated enough electricity to power major cities.

Among the cities that are being powered is Dar es Salaam, the country’s commercial hub.

We have turned off all these stations because the demand is low and the electricity production is too much, we have no allocation now,” an official from the state-run power company, Tanesco, said.

The 2,115 MW Julius Nyerere hydropower dam is said to be almost full of water, following heavy rains that started early this year.

A current spell of extreme weather has led to at least 58 deaths in Tanzania and devastated other East African nations like Kenya.

It is the first time Tanzania, which suffers chronic power shortages, has closed hydroelectric stations as a result of excess production.

While a country of 200M with discos and gencos is telling its inhabitants that the highest power output it can generate is mere 6000MW? Giant of Africa indeed.

And Nigeria 🇳🇬 National Grid keeps collapsing like a randy octogenarian having Parkinson disease shocked shocked shocked...

Nigeria 🇳🇬 indeed, is an embarrassment to Africa. It still marvels and outstands me that some grown up men and women Overtly behaving as zombies will always accept any policy thrown at them by the govt in power even without critical analysis.

Africa was once seen as the dark continent of the world, but recently, smaller countries in the continent have been embarking on developments which has been pulling Africa into the world except Nigeria 🇳🇬 that doesn't want to progress with time, courtesy of our inept leaders.

Indeed, Nigeria is dragging Africa backward because she is now the dark country of the continent.

While an average Nigerian would've rather embezzled the money meant for power generation, buy solar for his home and use the rest to go and flex in America or Europe where power is stable.

The level of corruption in our country is no longer a pathetic issue but ignorance and pure evil.

Your cesspit's lack of electricity is the consequences of having the illiterate supporter of APC futa jalon terrorists at the helm of affairs of your cesspit. A group pf people that is retrogressive without any positive impact on the society where ever they live in Africa. Keep tolerating them and keep lacking electricity. As for we Biafrans, electricity will be in abundance only a a year after Biafra's restoration. It is not a rocket science.

Despite Tanzania still suffering chronic power shortage like Nigeria, when did Nigeria shut down power stations because of excess electricity?

The electricity issue in Nigeria is more of a corruption problem.

The supply chain for electricity is so large that tlyou cannot begin to fathom the different areas and the the different actors in the power sector.

- Customes make money through clearing of all types of generator.
-Filling stations make money from people buy fuel to power their homes, shops or offices.
-Generator sellers, spare part sellers, and mechanic are all employed just because we lack electricity.
- Diesel is also used to power large generators.
- Power generation is a reoccurring campaign point for each election cycle.

There are many factors. It is not that there is no money to fix electricity, every successive government just lack the will power to do it due to corruption.

Shalom.
