The Court of Appeal has set aside the Lokoja High Court order against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, in a contempt case filed by Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

The Court of Appeal, presided over by Justice Joseph O.K. Oyewole, granted the EFCC’s motion for a stay of execution and proceedings in the contempt case, pending before the Kogi State High Court.

The court held that the motion ex parte had merit and adjourned the hearing of the motion on notice to May 20, 2024.

It also ordered substituted service of all processes in the case to be pasted at Yahaya Bello’s last known address in Abuja.

The appellate court’s decision has halted the contempt proceedings against the EFCC and its chairman, and allows the appeal filed by the anti-graft agency against the ruling of the Lokoja High Court to proceed.

The case is EFCC vs. Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Appeal No: CA/ABJ/CV/413/2024

He dare not approach the Supreme Court, otherwise his appeal will be thrown out for lacking merit

Yahaya Bello saga would serve as a memory verse for all other sitting governors who think there won't be a day they will vacate the seat of power.
No condition is permanent.
If this man is actually innocent, why was he evading the EFCC?
This should serve as a reminder to all political leaders that accountability cannot be evaded.

I guess one of the take aways from Yahaya Bello's travails was the wisdom bequeathed to Ododo the current Governor that led him to pay 85% of the LG Workers Salary last month, the first time such would happen in 16 years!
