ACMF Concludes First Phase of Drug Abuse Campaign at St. Peters College, Sets Stage for Second Phase





The Accurate Creative Minds Foundation (ACMF) has successfully concluded the first phase of its drug abuse awareness campaign, which kicked off at Lafenwa High School and culminated at St. Peters College, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.


The campaign, sponsored by Olageospatial Global Investment Company (OGIC) in collaboration with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, aims to sensitize students about the dangers of drug abuse.

Our correspondent Ademola Oyinkansola reports that the final event of the first phase took place today at St. Peters College, where NDLEA officials led by Mrs Morakinyo Oluseyi and the ACMF team addressed students on the risks and consequences of drug abuse.

It would be recalled that the awareness had taken place in Lafenwa High School, Premier Grammar School, and St John's Anglican high school all in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

While addressing the students, Mrs Oluseyi emphasized that drug abuse is a problem that affects everyone and defined drugs as chemical substances that can alter physical and mental states.

She highlighted the different types of drugs, including legal and illegal drugs, and explained why people use drugs, including for health reasons, pleasure, and lack of parental care.

The NDLEA official also elaborated on the consequences of drug abuse, including physical, psychological, and social consequences, saying that physical consequences include abnormality, premature death, and damage to vital organs such as the brain, heart, and liver.

She further explained that the Psychological consequences include brain disorder, loss of memory, and anxiety, while social consequences affect the environment, family, and relationships, leading to issues like dropouts, job loss, poverty, divorce, amongst others.

The campaign also emphasized the importance of setting goals in life, defining goals as something to inspire and work towards achieving.

Also speaking, the ACMF Deputy Director, Benedicta Aluko, appreciated the school management for allowing them to sensitize the students and extended gratitude to the sponsor and collaborators.

She said that with the success of the first phase, ACMF is set to embark on the second phase of the campaign, which promises to be even more impactful and far-reaching.

She therefore urged for continued support and collaboration to tackle the menace of drug abuse and promote a safer, healthier society for all.

While fielding questions from the journalists, One of the teachers in St Peters College who also is the Cordinator of the foundation's bookclub in the school, Mrs Odukoya described the program as interesting and came at the right time.

Mrs Odukoya also canvases for more awareness, saying that the majority of students are clueless about the damages of drugs. Therefore, government needs to make more awareness.

She therefore urged parents to lead good example to their children.
