in the Niger Delta

Try the South South States, Bayelsa, Delta, loads of concerns with oil spills and the likes around this region, the state government and UN is pouring money into it

How about trying the oil majors, government, or UN agencies functioning in the WA region?

Dunno why everyone thinks that there are jobs in cleaning up spills for environmental consultants - much money has been wasted doing 'environmental' courses abroad with no jobs at the end of it. Not saying there are no jobs, but not the way people think.

What areas have you worked in? Do you specialise in EIAs, waste management, remediation, iso 14001 auditing or what exactly?

Depending on your area of specialisation you can search for jobs more appropriately

@debosky, as an environmental consultant i cover both EIA, EMS (it incorporates auditing/ISO 14000 and EMAS), renewable energies and waste management, however i am aware that Nigerian industries don't care about their environmental performances, its a shame that we lack environmental policy and laws thats is suppose to provide a framework for their environmental activities. over here in England environmental agencies generate billions of pound annually for the government.

That is not quite true - many companies care about their environmental performance and many sites, especially in the oil and gas industry have had ISO 14001 certification as far back as the early 2000's.

There are EIA laws and the like in Nigeria but this isn't widely known.

Hi Jimbass
I currently live in England and just concluding my MBA from a UK university. My first degree is in environmental sciences and recently I'm having the urge to go back to it, even though I diverted into other JDs after graduation - reason being that I did what I could get a job in.
However, a lot of my mentors have been urging to go down that path and doing my own research, I think there's a need for it.
The truth is, getting a job isn't promised. But you can actually consult for the Government and even within the private sector. Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important and Africa is the focus.
I'm considering doing an MSc in something related to this. Maybe starting 2017. As my head is still cooling off from MBA steam. I've been looking and I think I should be eligible to apply for some scholarships.
If you would like us to contact each other do drop a note. Maybe we can run minds together. smiley
