Sir, I know that by now, you are aware of the death of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu. As your former comrade in the military, how did you receive the news?

Yes, I am fully aware. It is regrettable like all deaths. Whether you like him or not, Ojukwu has made an impact in this country. It was because of him substantially that we ended up having the civil war. So, he was an important Nigerian, who has made historic impact in the life of this nation, especially in Igbo land. I have often told anybody I met that as far as I am concern, the greatest black man from Africa was the late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe, an Igbo man. But most Igbo people say Ojukwu is the greatest, and so, the Igbo gave Ojukwu all the honour, not Zik. I asked them why they honour Ojukwu more than Zik, they said Zik served the Nigerian nation but Ojukwu served the Igbo nation.

This is clearly a useless pursuit, but I have to say that there is nothing farther from the truth in saying that "Zik was the Greatest African". Are you going to compare him to Mandela and others.

Not that I don't consider Zik a Great Man, I do, but this is clearly an incompetent assessment at best.
