PDP, party of criminals, says el-Rufai


Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai yesterday described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a  party of criminals which is determined to ruin Nigeria. Similarly, vice presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the April general election, Pastor Tunde Bakare said the nation is heading for precipice, contending that only prayer can halt the drift.

Both spoke at the inauguration of the CPC Renewal Committee in Abuja yesterday. Listing what he called evils of the PDP government, the former FCT minister declared that Nigeria was bleeding as a result of the level of profligacy among public officials. el-Rufai, who is the chairman of the renewal committee, argued that the fortunes of the nation would continue to dwindle as long asb the PDP is allowed to call the shot at the centre. Short of calling names of those in the PDP and government who are plundering the countrys resources, he said the incumbent has demonstrated high level of inefficiency and lack of vision.

Asked what was the difference between the PDP of few years ago which he was a prominent member and now, el-Rufai argued that things had not gone out of hand when he was in the party. He said he had to decamp to the CPC because of the integrity of the leader of the party, Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari, stressing that Buhari was not out to enrich himself but to provide a good platform social justice and good governance. Commenting on governments plan to withdraw fuel subsidy, el-Rufai said the Federal Government was not telling the masses the truth.

He challenged government to explain how a whopping N1.3 trillion was expended on subsidy in 10 months rather than blackmailing the country that the economy will collapse in two years if the subsidy is not removed. Echoing the position of the former minister, Bakare said the country was on the brink of collapse as a result of PDPs inept leadership. He called on all Nigerians to come together and save the country. He specifically called for prayers to help in confronting those he called selfish leaders in the corridors of power.

Earlier, Buhari who inaugurated the CPC Renewal Committee charged the party members to show the way by observing the rules of the party. He said the country cannot continue to be taken for granted by political leaders. Buhari stated that his support for a reform in the party was based on his conviction that people should be allowed to drive a party and not what is c urrently obtained. While giving reasons for constituting the committee, General Buhari said:  While the elections of 1999, 2003 and 2007 have inspired hopes that were later dashed, the general elections in 2011 have demonstrated one reality that we Nigerians as a people must not accept. It has shown that millions of people could stay away from voting yet the state and its umpire agencies would generate pre-determined electoral outcomes. Nigerians must not accept this evolving reality; political parties are lifelines of democracies.

El-Rufai promised that the Renewal Committee will strive to bring together all members of the CPC and develop an ambitious but achievable programme of mobilization.  We will build on the attraction of the CPC to Nigerians  and the promise of change from the transactional politics of distribution and patronage that the ruling party is known for, to the serviceoriented politics of solving societal problems that General Buhari has exemplified in all his public life.

The only interesting part of the article , for me, is quoted below. Those wanting to rid the nation of the PDP at the centre should start selling themselves now and begin to forge alliance throughout Nigeria today. Otherwise, despite how badly the PDP fare, we will still have a "nest of killers" member as President come 2015.

Just as i would ask u to always present a case against those u hate and accuse so much on this forum, we knw criminals wen we see them but the Nigerian system is sick. Its like saying Obj, Atiku, Ibb are all clean.

See here, corruption and nepotism started during his tenure in d Bpe, during the senate hearing wich i watched, i hrd him say, Atiku pleaded with him to give some bidders undue advantage, cus he Atiku promised to help them.

El Rufai, are you talking to Nigerians born after you left office or Nigerians who have very little memory to accommodate events within a decade?

Aren't you just of the kind that jumps ship at the slightest sign of their irrelevance and then turn around to say your party has no integrity. PDP has not changed one nerve since Obasanjo. Why didn't you jump ship then?
