Well, lovely write up.sincerely, I'll say the ibos are the most business oriented ppl in Nigeria. TRUE. And all respect to them. No tribe can take that from them. Though, sometimes I wonder why they are not the best in any field. Haulage~surely the Hausas (Dangotes, Dantatas) automobile~(Ade ojo Elizade) Telecom (Glo) Banking (GTB) still d best in dis country. Textile (Dangote) cement~thats easy. Estate devpmt~ fatimilehin and J.T. Oli n gas~very easy. Auditing~Akintola williams & co. Leisures, Hotels etc. Multi-national industries, Construction industies, and the list goes on and on, |

omoeso:we don't recognized those that got help or financed from govt, that's why we hardly mention people like ifeanyi uba capital oil,you might as well add IBB,ATIKU,OBJ,DANJUMA,ETC!! stealing money with a pen is different from real entrepreneurs that use their brain from ashy to classy still, example Richard branson owner of virgin airline and trains, thats what we call self made billionaire |

The igbos (Men in particular) excel in that particular aspect of business involving buying and selling particularly when the business is owned by an individual or a small group of individuals , There really is no evidence that they do better than Hausas in those other and more significant aspects of Nigerian business involving manufacturing,Services e.g banking aviation or telecommunications or CORPORATE STRUCTURES. The ubiquitous nature of buying and selling enterprises gives rise to certain myths but the reality is that The Nigerian businesses that really matter are firmly in the hands of Hausa/Fulani and other Northerners They control the sale of Sugar Cement Livestock Flour Cotton Agricultural Products Foreign Exchange Petroleum products Construction =Julius Berger Haulage/Aviation Let us not be deceived by ubiquity. What really matters in Naija is controlled by Aboki There is a lot more to business than buying and selling e.g. services businesses. There is also a political and strategic angle to doing business in Nigeria which entails power at the centre. This requires another type of skill that many traders lack |

ak47mann:Just one man , a "TOUTS"? As usual you continue to talk like the tout that you are. Is that how you met him Reasoned or balanced debate is beyond your meagre cognitive resources, Did they attend his funeral because he was rich? Perhaps for a share of the imaginary 100 billion |

ak47mann:na me o, i take credit aribisala and i go back in one other thread like that, aribisala0: guy going by someone that has the same tribal genes like you (wande Coal) I dont think you should be using that as your metric of measurement, if you want to put the igbos to shame say "do you want to measure money with me"? This is going off Naija number 2 richest man AKA Adenuga who is of your tribal stock maybe we can then infer you have ego (even though it might not be actually true), But please no compare prick with igbo man again biko |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by aribisala0(m): 11:01pm On Dec 28, 2011 |
if you study my threads you will note i don't attack ethnic groups conversely i do not claim the achievements of yoruba men. until the day that nigeria splits,if an igbo man does some thing good i ,too will claim and share the glory. One of my happiest moments in Naija football was delivered by an Igboman Nwankwo Kanu against Brazil 1996. On the subject of prick leave that thing abeg . No hide behind Igboman either you get or you no get. anyway I know say you na Obelenwa Bring ya sista na make she come try my Agwo when e bite am she go tell you how far |

i am not sure whether you were born slow or something happened later on. Comprehension is clearly NOT your forte. Anyway I did not use the word tribalist since I do NOT consider my people to be a tribe. You really are quite dense though. I don't have time to explain every sentence to you! You wrote some rubbish about Adenuga earlier and I was making the point that i identify with achievers regardless of origin so I don't see Kanu as the property of Igbos exclusively as far as bragging rights are concerned ;I wetago As for your sister joke ,it was nearly funny but a bit fake. I think you are trying too hard. Ndo igbo boy: |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by igboboy1(m): 8:49am On Dec 29, 2011 |
aribisala0: wonders shall never end ofe manu is asking if someone was born slow? You are nothing but rabble |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by DaLover(m): 3:22pm On Dec 29, 2011 |
@Negro Ntns, I dont understand this your desire to give the north and the west credit for the enterprenurial achievement of the average Igbo trader since after the civil war, thank God you finally admitted there is also a decent market in the east where Igbo buisnessmen also thrive, as long as people are there, the market will always exist, you are saying the Igbo should not the patting themselves on the back for the speedy achievements after a devasting civil war? instead we should dedicate some praise to the population tha constiutes the market?? OK, A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HAUSAS AND YORUBAS FOR EXISTING AND ALLOWING IGBOS TO TURN YOUR EXISTANCE INTO CASH, Negro, you logic is totally wrong, an I suspect it is driven by envy of the Igbos, Its like asking people not to praise Bill Gates and Steve Jobs for taking advantage of the existing market, instead we should be thanking the market for agreeing to used the products from this great guys, I really understand that it can be quite difficult giving honour to whom it is due, when whom it is due is the subject of so much envy, we just have o rise above board on this occasion LAGOS On this issue of contribution to Lagos by the Igbos, we only have to look at what the happening in Abuja, Today outside the Government, The Igbos are the key drivers of the economy of Abuja. |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by aribisala0(m): 3:46pm On Dec 29, 2011 |
buying and selling is quite a small part of business, Igbos contribute just like everyone one else. Yoruba women generally engage in buying and selling more than men and they are quite important in the wholesale of so called fast moving consumer items aka provisions and fabrics at Oke arin and Balogun market. The Hausa and others have their areas. All these supremacist ideas are silly and delusional really when all the facts show the OVERWHELMING dominance of the north in key areas And like everyone else they have their spheres of dominance .The bottomline is the biggest non-oil segment of the Nigerian economy is Agriculture which is dominated by the North. Find out how much of the Agric and Oil Subsidy ends up in the NORTH. If you don't know in Nigeria, winning in politics is winning in business and we all know who the winners are Even in trading the North dominate Foreign exchange gold and other minerals sugar cotton petrol kerosene cattle onions tomato goats sheep cement steel etc If we leave buying and selling and talk about the more important businesses Banking Telecomm Oil and Gas Aviation Construction Haulage and Other Stock Exchange listed businesses we shall see who really runs things in Nigeria Look at all the Major concession e.g the Ports , Right Now Close to 5% of Nogeria's economy is in the hands of ONE MAN and we know where he is from Let us not kid ourselves Some people DINE on the table while others FEAST on what falls off. From what I read here it looks like there is contentment all round |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by aljharem3: 4:17pm On Dec 29, 2011 |
DaLover: I would tell you the truth now. Yes Igbos are good business men and can go to every remote community to sell their goods. This is very needed in a country like Nigeria where we are not too densely populated in some areas Now before those traders sell their goods in those places, they need people who they would buy it from. Here comes the the yorubas especially the women who are wholesalers in large multinational companies. Also if they were to import the goods, here come the hausas to do the foreign exchange bit. Now Igbos are more a less retailers compare to wholesalers and producers. Also this retailers need the market (lagos, port harcourt, kano etc population are consumers) So I am not trying to take credit from the Igbos because it is only an ungrateful person that would say Igbos have not achieve a lot since the inception of Nigeria. I am just telling you the views of others as well. We are a society where we help each other and each person has there individual roles for the "greater Nigeria". Without the Igbos Nigeria's economy would have crashed way back Thank God for the Igbos in Nigeria |
Re: Culture And Igbo Business Practices! by aribisala0(m): 4:33pm On Dec 29, 2011 |
Without the Hausas the economy would have crashed too. Ditto for the Oil of the Ijaws We must be careful not to emphasize the importance of one over the other. Everyone has their strengths and WEAKNESSES too Thank God for ALL Nigerians |
