@Joshua, i think your wrong there because without further mathematics in your o level forget unilag infact in ur jamb combination.am a unilag student and i could attest to that, a friend of mine lost his admission just because of that alone even though he was first on the compilment list but when it was uploaded computer deleted his name.so you guess be mindful, same goes with mathematics, engineering etc.and those who choose accountancy without account. you wont be admitted.for details 07064556552

Although you made some correct statements, i totally disagree with you on your statement about the requirements for Accounting, I am a student of the said dept. and i neither did financial accounting in my O'level nor in my UTME. In UTME one must do maths, english, economics and either govt, f/account, geography or commerce. In O'level, one must have at least a credit in maths, english, economics and any other two science, social sci. or arts subjects. Financial Accounting is NOT RECOGNIZED! During my registration, a guy had A1 in financial Accounting and a D7 in Economics, he was disqualified from registering in the Faculty of Business Administration.

For political sci. UTME; maths, government, economics. For Economics; maths, economics and either government or geography. NB: only Government or geography is allowed, no other subject is allowed otherwise, one will be AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED! They do not recognise Financial Accounting or commerce. Biology is only required for psychology.

A very daft post from a clearly disillusioned mind. one of the reasons why the 6-3-3-4 system is said to have failed. OBVIOUSLY, ferdinand007 failed in his futile bid to secure admission into Nigeria's most preferred institution because he did not qualify appropriately. He has now resorted to tongue-lashing africa's most sought-after institution. what a joke!
He forgot that UNILAG is even seeking to reduce admission pressures as u will find below;

Patronise other varsities to reduce admission pressure, UNILAG tells parents
On December 15, 2011 · In Education

By Emmanuel Edukugho

Overwhelmed by the huge number of candidates seeking admission into the institution yearly, the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) has pleaded with parents to patronize other universities in the country.

Professor Olukayode Amund, Dean of Students Affairs (DSA) told a mammoth gathering at the General Meeting of University of Lagos Parents’ Forum held in the University’s Main Auditorium, last Thursday that they (parents) should send their children/wards to other universities as University of Lagos is not the only one in the country.

“You should patronize other universities so as to reduce the pressure on University of Lagos. Our carrying capacity is 8, 200, but over 100, 000 applicants were screened for admission”.

He said there are several universities which are looking for students to be admitted and parents can send their children to those institutions.

Prof Sofoluwe, VC, UNILAG

Amund wondered why so many parents want to send their children to UNILAG while there are several universities “begging” for students.

In his welcome address, Mr. B.B. Majekodunmi, Chairman, University of Lagos Parents’ Forum, explained that the main purpose of the forum is to foster an alliance among parents, University Authorities and students in order to enhance students performance and also create a conducive environment for learning.

He recalled that the parents forum was established on 2nd of November, 1999, “when the intervention of parents was seen as being essential and in promoting a trouble free university atmosphere”.

Among the issues he listed that the university faced at time included cultism, rape, burglary, armed robbery, insurgency, sexual harassment, harlotry, indiscipline and various anti-social behaviour which robbed the university of an atmosphere conducive to learning.

While he cautioned parents to desist from sending children under 18 years to the university because they are not matured enough for unlimited freedom in tertiary institution, Majekodunmi pledged the willingness of the forum to assist in the areas of accommodation for students and also by way of endowments.

The parents raised some vital issues concerning the administration of the university which the DSA responded to appropriately.

On release of Results: Prof. Amund said parents don’t ask for the results of their children, nor follow up on their progress. That parents do not monitor the students as some of them may spend six (6) years instead of four.

He agreed that the university is not yet fully computerised, but results are released quicker now, moreso that the Vice Chancellor is a Computer Scientist and working towards “paperless administration”.

“Even when the results are out some students go home to say there are no results. Parents can come to the school to verify”, he advised.

On cultism, the DSA said there was a seminar on this issue in which four students came out to renounce cultism openly. It would have been more but for the presence of Deans at the seminar.

“About 99% of students in cultism want to quit. Cultism is synonymous with armedrobbery. There are attempts to get the boys and girls removed. Parents don’t know that their children are in cult. It’s a deadly matter and we are doing something to wipe it out”.

“Initiation is deadly and many can’t come out alive, they are buried in the bush. Check suspicious people who visit our children. Parents are lethargic. It’s a collective responsibility and parents should co-operate”.

In respect of communication, the Dean of Students Affairs told the meeting of parents that Radio UNILAG communicates all activities and operations of the students.

“We hold meetings with student leaders, we communicate with faculty associations, faculties and we do so effectively”.

He affirmed that Matriculation numbers have already been issued to all the students.

A motivational speaker, Pastor Nelson, took the parents through a talk on the need for good parenting.

Former Chairman of the forum, Mrs. Maureen Bakare appealed to parents to take interest in the well being and academic progress of their children, monitor them so as not to derail or imbibe anti-social behaviour.

Awards of excellence for selfless services rendered by the former executives of the University of Lagos Parents’ Forum were bestowed on Mr. Emmanuel Edukugho, a seasoned Journalist who tirelessly projected the image of the forum in the realm of Public Relations, Mr. P.K. Ajibolade, Secretary, Arc. S.O. Daramola, Mr. S.B.O. Ezeonwurie, Treasurer, Dr. H.O. Oseni, Project Planning Co-ordinator, Elder O.O. Olowojebutu, Major-General Emmanuel O. Abisoye (Rtd) Vice Chairman, and Mrs. Maureen F.I. Bakare, Chairman.

@Gokuu I would realy like to reciprocate ur insultive post bt i wount, , ur post too long 4 people 2 read, and besides u trashd ur own post wit ur hand. Let asume 100,000 did unilag putme last yr, 40,000 passed 25,000 beat d cut-off and lyk u said dey only nid 8,000 (which is false coz were instructed 2 take atmost 6000 if i cud rem corectly) so hw many people do u tink wil b admited in d merit? 25,000 beats d cutoff 1000+ runs their way in (mind u dat 1k is nt among d 25) so 5k out of 25k candidate, ?
Open ur eyes boy ova d yr i ve sin pple wit rocket high agg and stil no admision. Pple paying 450k and stil no admision, my analysis jst d good part. I try 2 make it luk as gud as posible coz its worst, far worst dan dat.
and i hear u sayin sumtin abt unilag rejecting me.lol d wise realise a dead end b4 e begings his journey. I wish al of u taking jamb best of luck, read and pray hard and u wil b admited
Re: University Of Lagos 2012/2013 Admission{unilag} by funkiedee1(f): 4:20am On Jan 03, 2012
@ferdinad007, u and gokuu shld take it easy. Bt u shld ask those that u said had high aggreagates if they chose d ryt combination of subject in both utme and o levels. Dats d only tin dat disqualifies a candidate 4rm gainin admission. There's a guy who put in 4 econs and had an aggregate of 78, bt didnt c his name on merit list cos he didnt choose d ryt utme subjects. D guy is also a nairalander. He followd d case up and they tld him his mistake bt they later gave him finance in d 2nd list. Luckily 4 him, he was alrdy in lasu 300l. So dats just it. I can vouch 4 d skul wen it comes to admission on d merit. If u pass the cutoff, u'l c ur name on d merit list even u dnt av complete and correct o levels. Bt ur utme subject must be accurate. Its on d registration day they luk out 4 inaccurate o levels. Unilag's admission process is one of d best and easy to calculate in dis country. Thats d truth. And it hasnt change unlike U.I dat changed theirs last yr witout informing pple. Unilag even gave practice questions and gave a fore knowledge of d questions wuld luk lyk! Ow many institutions wuld do dat, mayb xcept d private 1s. Wat else cn u xpect 4rm a university? Tell us?
Re: University Of Lagos 2012/2013 Admission{unilag} by funkiedee1(f): 4:41am On Jan 03, 2012
i'd advise dat any1 taking courses in faculty of busines admin and social sciences, shld do d following in the utme nd o levels : eng, maths, econs and govt/geography. Dnt eva attempt to write commerce or account, if nt u ar wastin ur time. Unilag likes econs and govt. They blv econs and commerce ar d same bt econs very much preferable.
For Art courses and law: literature and govt/history and c.r.k or i.r.k is o.k both in utme and o levels.
For faculty of sciences: any course there wuld require phy, chem and bio, maths or any other science related subject in relation to ur course. E.g u put in 4 physics as a course and u dnt do physics in utme, u ar on ur own.
For courses in d college of medicine and also pharmacy: phy, chem and biology is a perfect combination.
For courses in environmental sciences (achitecture, quantity surveying, building, etc) u shld av Technical drawing(T.D) in ur o levels in order to avoid trouble o.

@ Don1Dee, funkie dee and all, welcome 2 d thread. U don't need anyone 2 tell u d truth, either u believe it or not, what u need 2 understand- (1) o ' level must be right (2) choose d right subjects combination (3) aim 2 work harder and smarter and score higher like 250 and above for others while 280 and above for law, mass comm, accountancy, biz admin, engineering, computer science for better admission chances (4) those with catchment areas with lagos and ELDS also hv a gud chance but if ur state is not among d catchments and ELDS, U HV 2 work hardest, smartest and hope well. D first job is 2 pass jamb utme wella before anytin else. **** NOTE- UNILAG POST UTME PAST QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS and PRACTICE ONLINE TEST - CBT**** will soon be available 2 help ur preparation and admission process. Please, guys choose don't course(s) that u don't hv equivalent subject in o level, please u if don't history in o level don't choose history. Economics and social sciences, economics in o level is important, commerce will not be accepted in place of econs note, (jamb brochure even mention commerce, don't mind jamb, ignore dis section of d brochure.)
Re: University Of Lagos 2012/2013 Admission{unilag} by funkiedee1(f): 5:07am On Jan 03, 2012
pls, pls and pls, any 1 taking any course in engineering, äctuarial science, computer science, architecture, mathematics. U ar REQUIRED to have further maths in ur O' LEVELS!!!
Even if u pass the cutoff mark, ur name wuld b on d merit list bt @ d point of registration @ multipurpose hall A, after you'v spent money in getting al d required documents, d person wuld b sent bck and tld to re write anoda jamb, Even if u knw d v.c. Coz u av created space 4 a person to enter d supplementary list. Many were sent nt allowed to register last yr.
Bt for nw, i tink d main focus nw is jamb which is in barely 3 mnths time coz witout a good utme score, chances of gaining admission is reduced. Aim @ 260 upward. Wit dat, u alrdy av 32 marks and above. Study jamb past questns. Blv me, it helps. If u dnt knw any subject, start goin 4 tutorials. For those doin maths, concentrate more on futhermaths cos dats wat jamb maths is al abt. Bt its quite easy. Lyk differentiation, integration, matrices, polynomials, sets, permutation and combination, etc. When reading any subject, use d jamb syllabus for guidance. It helps. And also, pls do ur best first, try and study well and start early. Dnt put ur mind on expo or special centres, tel urself dat u can make it. Aim @ merit list, coz supplementary is runs. Those dat ar passing dnt av two heads or bigger brain capacity. And finally in al things put God first and he'l c u thru. God bless u all.
